I suggest getting rid of the stock pump (if you still have it)

Hijack

Yes I have it .. and agree are yunk .. but my PS pump in my engine it's a little complcated ( not imposible ) to replace ..

my hydrosteer with the ported 60 box and the saginaw pump (drilled out restrictor) works freakin great. I have ZERO problems moving my 39.5s from lock to lock at a dead stop locked up (not that I do this as a common practice).

thanks mate .. I thought I would go with that route .. just need to figure how to do that .. and buy my ram assist ..

Only progress to report is that I confirmed the leak is coming from the intake, but I have not pulled it yet. Maybe tomorrow. I've been lazy recently!

so what is the downside of removing the EGR from the equation? I just have a standard "sniff" test in my area to pass DEQ. They do not check under the hood.

and yes this is a pathetic attempt at a bump :)

EGR helps with economy, emissions and pinging at cruise, but thats about it.

Many early heads do not have egr ports. also, with no EGR you can run a nice single plane manifold, Weiand Xcellorator or Edelbrock RPM.

I found the main oil leak & I think its bad news. I have oil coming up the internal shaft of the distrubutor (Aftermarket Ebay billet unit), so I changed it out with the stock unit.
I haven't pulled the cap to see if the leak is still there since I have another bigger problem. At RPM's above 4k I get blue smoke from the tail pipe & around 4500+ it starts to billow. I'm hoping that the rockers are shooting oil into the PCV valve, but I haven't disconnected it yet to test. I have a feeling I'm having a ring problem , giving me high crankcase pressure, causing the leaks I'm getting.

My next step is to disconnect the PCV & if that does not fix it I'll pull the plugs, read them and do a compression test (was 150psi across the board before). hopefully this will give me an idea of whats going on. Worst case scenario is pulling the engine & re-ring it. Hopefully it something simple.

Now that I've got the tune pretty good, when I really get into the throttle at 4k+ it pulls really hard, no comparisson to the stock 350. It definately feels like its going to be a 350HP+ engine and has tons of low end torque.

ah man... sorry to hear that. I hope its simple too. I made a trip down to the local bookstore and bought about 3 books on "how to assemble a small block chevy"and "small block chevy engine buildups" and been searchin' like crazy on thirdgen about the ebl stuff. Still on the fence on whether to find a decent used motor, go with some heads like the dart eagle iron or go budget and plop a set of vortec heads (or modified vortec heads from Scoggin's Dickey) with a cam/intake etc. since I know my bottom end still seems decent.

Rings don't like you....

:bang:

I did some testing this evening & it looks like a leak from the balancer seal is blowing oil all over the exhaust causing the smoke. I knew I had a leak there but had no idea how bad it was at high RPM's under load. I'll fix the seal & see if that fixes my problem, if so, its back to tuning! :bounce:

Update: The leak @ the balancer turned out to be a missing bolt @ the front of the block, as pointed out by Rbob

Fixed that, got it up to 5k & it sprung another big leak around the back of the block.... this is freeking madening. I haven't had a chance to track it down yet. I got a good deal on a Horiz/vert bandsaw so I've been playing with that :D

The EGR is simple. I used an edelbrock 3701 manifold with the egr port & installed the cheapest EGR valve ($30) I could find that would fit. It all plugged in like stock after that. My heads don't have an EGR port so I used the EBL to tune it out. The only way to tell if the EGR is working would be pull the intake or apply vacuum to the valve & see if it kills the engine.

If you don't need one for smog, then just use an intake without EGR, pull the egr actuator & plug the TB.

nice, I just have the standard "sniff" test here. They dont even pop the hood to look if the EGR is there or not. If the EBL allows you to tune it out I'm not going to bother worrying about it.

I wouldn't sweat it unless you'll get checked someday. I'm hoping the smog guys around here won't question my manifold & valve covers.

Did you get your EBL yet?

I think you like oil leaks..

Just got it today... I forgot to order a serial to usb adaptor so I'll need to order one from moates tomorrow (my laptop doesnt have a serial port). Unless you think there is a better source?

Cant wait to start playing with this thing. I opened up the WUD but I dont know what anything does yet. Any suggestions on what to start playing with first?

Still havent pulled the trigger on heads, intake, and a cam though... I've bought about every "chevy build-up" book and learned alot in the last month or so. Hopefully a great deal on heads will land on me and the choice will be easy.
