IF anyone is interested in the new history in making of this truck. Here is where it is at today. Frame off, new everything. Long build, but I am getting excited to drive it.

I'm going to start by warning Dan to look away so he won't burn his retinas on what I'm about to say...

I am glad to see that small block going in there. I have a Vortec/H55/3:73 in my troopy and I LOVE it. It is great on the highway, wonderful off road, quiet, decent fuel economy (around 17+ mpg highway) and easy/cheap to get parts for.

The 2F is a wonderful engine and lasts forever with very few issues. However, in today's world on modern highways it lacks a bit of oomph.

I can't wait to see this thing progress.

I have to agree, I put in the 5speed and 3.73 diffs and I can easly go 70mph and with room for more. And that's with the stock 2f.

Good thing you warned me. I had time to put on some shades.

I'm wondering if the BIG difference is the 3.73 gears and the H55f between your trucks. Dad's 40 with an H42 and 3.73s is plenty quiet, compared to the same engine/transmission put into an older 40 with 4.1 gears, so I'm wondering if that's where the real action is. Perhaps I need to look for 3.73 gears for my 45... I'm guessing they aren't too pricey.

That's some impressive bodywork there. I like it. Is that a metallic gold color? Some pictures looks like it is, and others not so much...

That's probably true. My LX here has the 5 speed with 4:11s, and it is not as quiet as my 83 FJ40 was in the US with a 5 speed and 3:73s. In my opinion, 3:73 gears do make a HUGE difference in driveablity. Look at James' FJ45, and that has the pre-81 2F in it too. Of course, bear in mind that he is at sea level with that 2F and we are at 7,000' in Santa Fe.

However, the 27% or 30% OD in your auto will also make a big difference.

You can take your shades off now, Dan.:D

Color is Golden Almond Metallic. Its a Lexus/Toyota color. I did not take the photos, so how close the paint is to what photo shows... hmm. I will post more pix when I can.
