Ancient Canadian secret. Very hush hush.

I think I had a video or pictures of it in the old bed production thread that's archived now

No video of the letter stamping but starting at post #315 in this thread is where I first made the stamped tailgate. A lot of cool documentation of building beds and gates in there as well.

building more LPB beds... come watch

So, during the previous weekend I was not able to complete the tailgate skin stamping process due to the oval tool being damaged. I decided to make a new tool and pick it up again this past weekend. I also made a short video showing some of the process. The still photo at the end shows the skin after I take the stamped skin and add the bends in the press brake. From that point I just need to weld the slits up and the skin itself is done.

I have transported all skins, top rails and end pieces to my garage for welding. Forgot to take a picture for the trailer thread "what have you put in your trailer" in the trailer sub-forum.

I was going to bend the hooks too but ran out of time. Also couldn't find the special backstop jig I use to bend them so am making another one. I'll film the hook bending as well.

Hey guys, just a few photos to update progress....

Bent and welded the end pieces,

And also ground smooth and sanded the weld to look like a stamped piece...

then the same thing for the top rails...

And now I'm working my way through the tailgate skins welding and grinding up the slits on the ends where the metal shrinks together when I bend them. Next is the hooks, gotta bend them up and weld/ grind them. Have to stamp out the stiffeners and bend the chain anchor plates and then I can start assembling individual gates. Hopefully I should be ready to start assembly on the April 15/16 weekend, though that is my Birthday and I may be scarfing down chocolate cake if my hints are getting through to the wife :D

Even with all the expensive equipment, a career gathering expertise, you're still spending countless hours fabbing and finishing items most of us could never create. My hat's off to you for your dedication.
Signed.................an appreciative customer !

X2...couldn't have said it any better.

Will do Mike, thank you
