Should I be locking down the 78 spreadsheet from further editing?

One thing I need from anyone who may have this part lying around and would be willing to either take good measurements of it or ship it too me: the 1978 sub-harness that plugs into the rear chassis harness for the fuel tank sending unit and the seat belt switch connections. I need the lengths for each branch. I need to know what color wire and what type connectors are on them, and how long between each connector.

I am building a new rear harness for a MUD member and would like to make this part for him also. (Just for the record this harness will NOT have the weird OEM connectors for the rear lights or the firewall connectors. I cut those off and am replacing them with Delphi Metri-Pak 150 water proof connectors).

I am working on my wiring harness this weekend and have ran into a few areas that I have questions on. Wire 105 shown on the excel sheet indicates that it is a reverse light switch but from the research I have done, this is the 4 gear position switch. I believe 106 and 107 are the reverse light wires.

Can someone tell me if I need 105 connected for the 4th gear switch on top of the transmission? It is the one with the green connector. Mine broke off on the transmission and I read that I could just ground it and it would be fine.

You are correct 106 and 107 are reverse lights and 105 is the 4th gear switch connector. I sell both the male trans connector, and the female harness connector if you want to replace either.

Male is Part# MLF1P6.3W (tranny side) $1.55
Female is Part # FLF1P6.3W (Harness side) $1.55

Coolerman, thanks for clearing this up. I would assume the owner of the spread sheet will be updating this. Could you tell me if the 4th gear switch is required? I must have missed it when I rebuilt the transmission and really don't feel like pulling apart the interior to access it.

Unless you are doing a concourse level restoration, no the switch is not required. Jim C states all you need do is ground the harness side wire to trick the emission computer and you are good to go. If you don't have the emissions computer connected then you need to do nothing.

Spreadsheet updated - and I think you have edit access Mark

I am trying to track down a wirinf issue on my midyear '79. Anyone know if the harness on this thread is the same as the 79?

Does the 1978 harness have a horn relay switch? I have read several threads that have stated that it should be on the passenger fender but I did not see one on here.

I would "upgrade" use the horn button to power a relay and run the horns directly off the battery. (And get some cool Hella horns while you are at it!)

Sweet thanks. I have the yellow hella horns installed. I would imagine that I would be fine just using the relay that came with the horns. If run the horns directly off the battery do I need to separate relays, one for each side?

Never mind, found this.

12/26/2016 NOTE: the linked documents are not available until I complete switching website hosts...

Well, in my project to reassemble my 40 from a few other 40s I decided to use this 12/78 harness... I hope that these pictures, along with an identifying list, will be useful to some of you.

Here is the picture. As you'll see each item is numbered... I would like to create a table cross referencing the numbers with their application and additional details. The table will get posted here and updated as needed. I will be asking for help from the experts out there.

Here is a large version of the below image (1.3mb):
