Junky, In post #14 snaggletto ask what springs you are using. In post #20 you stated you got them from Marks Off Road. The part number shown on the springs in post #71 shown the springs to be Downey Off Road Mfg 4" lift springs (sold to Mark). What's so great about those springs is they are genuine NHK's (factory who makes Toyota's springs), none finer on the planet, and they have many features that will let them live a long life- - -good on you for getting them.

Now that you mention it I do remember Mark telling me they were made by NHK when I bought them. I wheeled them for a few decades at a time when it was my DD as well. They're still standing tall.

Thanks sproggy. I'm looking forward to getting the top made, detailing some things and driving it.

Anyone got 8 of these windshield-wire/tube clips they'd be willing to part with?

What did you use for that black grommet? Also did you use an OEM windshield rubber seal? Do OEM rubber seal had welding joint in them?

I used a new rubber black grommet. :D If you need two I'll put some in your care package. I believe I have extras.

The windshield rubber is the one with the rubber key in the front. I believe I bought it from SOR but I think it was OEM. I did have to split it at the top and then caulked it with black Dow Corning 795. If I remember correctly I cut about 4" out of the center at the top.

Junky, I've also had mine since I was 16 or 17 and am now 48. However, I don't have the skills you have. I am more a diamond in the rough kind of guy but I do appreciate your build and I love green, too. I'll bet the 350 under the hood really surprises folks as the truck looks vintage but....LOOK OUT!

Yeah, I had fun when I was younger surprising a few Jeep's here and there. It was even more of a sleeper then with the 33 x 9.5 15 ATFs and early hub caps on it. All flat paint and no roll bar or top. I put the first 350 in January of '89 and got 25 trouble free years out of it. I'm hoping for the same with this one. Here's how it used to roll 15 - 20 years ago...

I could use your professional opinion on recaulking a few windows on the new office. Sash windows were changed for dual-glazed vinyl sliders about five years ago. The caulk is already shot. Hoping to reseal and paint this week. LMK.

Gosh Mark, are we ever going to have a "new office" warming party???? At least your huge parted stash keeps getting worth more and more as you work on the office.

I've got a hospital visit tomorrow morning and then off to Burbank Paint and SOR afterwards. I'll give you a call when I get into Burbank. Probably around 10-11:00.

Sounds good. Call my cellphone if the gate is locked when you get here. I can't hear the shop phone while I'm in the house.

Hey guys, thought I'd post some resent pics.

I decided to repaint the bottom half with some better quality paint that was a little more olive than the woodland green, and go for the full military look. I ended up painting the frame, bumpers, wheels, and axles the same color.

I should get it back in the next week from the upholsterer with a custom bikini top. Outside of attaching some new external parts it will be done. After that it's all maintenance and wheeling and having some fun again.

Great looking 40! Can/will you tell me how to replicate that steering wheel and horn button please sir? I have a '75 with a sun rot steering wheel.

It's been so long ago I'll have to pull the horn button off and take some pics for you. I do remember it's a Corbin steering wheel and I had to epoxy a part under the button. I replaced mine because it was cracked. I know there are places that repair steering wheels, but I'll post some pics as soon as I get it back this week.

Sorry guys, I was visiting this thread again and was surprised to find I never posted pictures of the finished product. The bikini top turned out great, really high quality and fits like a glove. The color isn't the match I was hoping for, but I've gotten used to it. The only thing I've got left to do is replace the electric fan with an engine driven fan and make a shroud. The electric fan doesn't pull enough air and it starts to get a little hotter than my liking on longer trips.
