I just looked and you're right Mark. It's gonna need a steel rod connecting the windshield frame to the roll bar. It'll be super easy. Fortunately I have never removed these clips that came with an old Kayline top I wore about one hundred years ago
Yes I made all the bows using 3/4" EMT. I had a friend who is a retired electrician do the bends with a EMT bender so they don't match the factory radius of OEM bows but when I did it I had only seen a picture of the factory bows on SOR's website. You could put a cable inside the edge of the fabric attached to the windshield and a bracket off the roll bar or rear hoop to tension the edges...

If you can bring it and end it at the bar, it will be golden. The rear is not as critical. Use eye bolts to fasten the tubing at either end and you won't need tools to install or remove.
BTW, your sig line still makes me smile. Those hippies down at the lower springs you warned me about twenty seven years ago? I joined their tribe six years ago. Major Tom, Garbage Mike, Hunter Al, Airplane Wayne and all the rest.

A very interesting group for sure. I've met lots of good peeps in that valley. Decades of wonderful memories. Looking forward to getting out there again soon.

I agree and was thinking the same. There were custom full soft tops made for the 40 a while back that had a olive drab/khaki color canvas with a slight variation in the color through out the canvas. It gave it the coolest vintage look. I'm interested to see what options these guys have.
Picture was taken last year at the family ranch near Columbus, Texas. I used the dune beige '72 to drag the green '74 out of the pasture that my brother "stored" it in about 10 years ago.
Fabbed the rods for the top over the door openings today. I've still got to file the holes square for the carriage bolts and cut the bolts down but you get the picture. No more time to work on them today but they should be finished and painted by Monday.
It's been a few years since I took the windshield frame off and removed all of the pieces. I forgot how involved that is. Finally, after 19 months of restoring and painting it's finally done. Yeah there's some touch up here and there, but I can relax and know there's no more major prep to do. I'll weld 2 tabs on the roll bar for the rods over the door openings to bolt to and it'll be done. Time to have the top made.
Well thanks foe the ICON compliment, but mine is defininately the "garage" version. I'm sure Jonathan Ward would laugh at it. His stuff is top notch. Yeah the mirror I'm sending to you I noticed on a shelf when Marv and I were walking through his shop. He knew I already had one but he picked it up and threw it to me. I'm glad it found a good home. It was hanging in my garage for 10 years. I've still gotta wire the wiper motors. The originals were vacuum wipers that went to Jim Casagrande. I'll be putting some time into your emblem on Monday.

I am sure no one would dare laughing at it, if they take builders imagination and effort into consideration. Beyond this no point in comparing building it with brand new items vs building with old & rebuild parts. IMHO later takes more effort and sometimes cost more. (Depending who is building it)
As much as I can't wait to see mirror and emblem in person, honestly no big rush at my end. Take your time and enjoy this cool ride first. Now that front emblem sorted I should shift my focus on rear emblem (LOL it never stops in my world).
Junky, In post #14 snaggletto ask what springs you are using. In post #20 you stated you got them from Marks Off Road. The part number shown on the springs in post #71 shown the springs to be Downey Off Road Mfg 4" lift springs (sold to Mark). What's so great about those springs is they are genuine NHK's (factory who makes Toyota's springs), none finer on the planet, and they have many features that will let them live a long life- - -good on you for getting them.
