Is the a kayline top you painted the bottom black?

Bought a new top from Kayline from Man A Fre back in 1994 to find OEM bows and doors from a 73 on my 68 FHT.

In 1995 bought this top/bows/doors in a news paper classified ad.

If my memory serves me well, back when l bought my ‘74 FJ40 it use too have a white Kayline soft top on it.
After l changed the body color from green to black l purchased a new black soft top for it. This of course left my soft doors
white.
A little while later l ended up buying some black vinyl paint if l remember correctly and l painted them black.

I used to have a picture of them with an old girlfriend standing next to my FJ40 with those unpainted white doors. But after l got married l got rid of all pictures with my old girlfriend in them.

A close friend gave me that advice, and l heeded that advice for my wife’s sake ! (...and my own as well 😂)
Otherwise....this may of soon become my inevitable fate !

If ya know what l mean ?

Just in case l dug through my old hoard of pics to show ya, but to no avail....🤣 !! When l traded that ‘74 off for a Newer ‘79 FJ40 l gave all the extra’s away to the Toyota dealer.

Thanks for informing me about the Kayline brand bc l couldn’t remember that brands name for the life of me. I still have the rods that attached the soft top to that piece just above the doors out in my garage.

When I bought the white top from Man-A-Free it included the rods and the vinyl for the doors.

The white top with tinted windows the doors came a second set of plexiglass windows. Those were tinted and the tint had faded and looked blue. He did have rod for over the doors and the channel the bolts to the windshield. A friend of mine later made a deal with the seller that included him getting him a fuel tank for the guy's 69. My friend was going give the tank from his FJ45 which was a later updated tank. I informed him the fill neck was wrong for an FJ40. Being a nice guy I traded him an FJ40 tank for the FJ45 tank. Score!

For me the old girlfriend is now an ex I had a kid with it. So she never completely went away unfortunately.

If you have no use for those rods my poor black top didn't come with them. He was also selling the doors but those were in bad shape and have a set of soft doors with black vinyl.

Yeah buddy you can have the (rod)s ... l better make sure l have them both. I know for sure I have one of ‘em but unsure about both.
You’ll have to PM me, for addresses etc. l kinda forgot how to do all that anymore, haven’t used “Classified” in many years already. I have some other stuff as well.

Those aluminium rods were kind of a pain to install but once in no way was top coming loose for the door header. Up until the midn1960s the channel for the windshield was welded on. Installing the soft top thru channel was hard. I have a technical bulletin from the early 1960s that was a out installing the top. It said to remove the cord. Get a metal rod of the same diameter and length. Bend it to match the arch in the windshield. You would install it the same way you do the kayline top on the door headers. Somewhere I still have the instruction sheet from Kayline on how to install the top.

Would appreciate any rods you have. Running errands today but will send you a DM.

"I'm disappointed none of them are smoking"

I dunno about that. That #11 guy with the mustache looks pretty sneaky to me. Where he put his light is gonna give the guy next to him a hot seat pretty quick ! Come to think of it, they all look like something's up ! Maybe they all beat up the Land Rover guys and stole their shirts? !

If you ever want to sell some of that white Kayline vinyl, enough to re-do a pair of soft doors let me know. I have a white Kayline soft top on my 72' FST, it looks identical to the one on your red one. It would be nice to have the matching vinyl for the soft doors.
