60 fronts are 35 spline from the factory...

The outers are 30 spline..
Go get your detroit.. You have to replace the carrier anyway..

30 or 35 spline

Mace,

I think my inners are 30 and outers are 35. Maybe I'm wrong, I can't remember. It was one or the other. My axle was out of a 79 chevy civilian truck. The inners on mine are the ones that neck down. That why I think it was 30 spline. The inner axles were completely different looking that what was in my buddies Dana 60 on his (drivers drop) Ford.

Anyway, I'll know next week when I get them out. My buddy Alan is going to set up the gears for me.

Detroit does make a 30 and 35 spline in both 4.10 down and 4.56 up. See link below.

I'm not replacing the carriers anyway. I went ahead and got the thick gears. Motive Gears. They make spacers too, so you can run lowers gears on the 4.10 carrier, if you cannot find the thick gear sets.

So if I order a Detroit, I can get one for 4.10. And have the correct ring gear for it.

They neck down but they are 35 spline.

Outers are 30 spline..

Well, good deal. But Detroit still makes a 30 spline for Dana 60. What's up with that? Unless that's a screw up from Summit.

Trust me, if anyone would get the s***tiest Dana 60 ever, it would be me.

"Stock Dana 60's come with either a 30 spline 1.31 inch axle or a 35 spline axle." Petersons 4 Wheel & Off Road August 2006 issue page 107.

I ain't trying to be a smart ass, just saying that I probably got one of the s***ty ones. We'll probably know by Wednesday/Thursday.

Twin Stick

xfr case was already twin sticked when I got it. I know nothing about how to do it. I still get confused about what is what. I have to look down at the front driveshaft to see if it's engaged or not.

5.13 gears will be going in Friday, hopefully.

I got the cruiser out on the road with the 44's on it yesterday. Man it's tall geared, but the engine handles the tires well.

And it does not stop nearly as well as with the 39.5's.

Other than that, the 44's seem to actually ride better on the road. They are not as chunked out. It's drives about 60 mph fine. And that's plenty fast.

Do a Google search for twin stick NP 205. There are quite a few good articles with a billion pictures to guide you through the process. The entire process shouldn't take more than an hour. Good luck

Update Mace was right.

Mace was right, 35 spline inners 30 spline outers. I was hoping he was right.

Got the 14 bolt all setup and had the carrier ready to go into the Dana, and we realized they sent me the wrong ring/pinion. They sent me a reverse cut set.

So instead of finishing up, I took the time and finally built my trac bar. I've been talking about it for months. This was actually alot more work than I thought. I would kill for a shop with a lift.

Anyway, here's a few pics of this weekends progress.

A few more

Here's the tires I had to put on to get the cruiser in my shop.

Here is my front axle like it sits now. We would have had it together Friday.

Work Friday

Here's some work from Friday. We are working 4 10 hours shifts at work now. :D

Since this was no life saving device, I just bought some schedule 40 pipe.

I was going to buy tubing, but I didn't need or have the money for the minimum $300.00 order.

Most of the time, after I build something, I do not like it. So I decided to spend $40.00 and do it cheap.

I used the cheapo Harbor Freight bender. It does "O.K." if you try not to make your bends too sharp.

I'm getting older and fatter every day, so I welded the step on the slider. Maybe it will not be a rockfinder.

I'm not finished yet, I have a clamp holding it on the Cruiser.

rock catchers, just kidding, I like them but not really my style. DO you have any pics of the 205 between the frame rails. was it hard to squeeze in there? I am building up a 40 now with a 350/350/205 combo, 60 front and 14 bolt rear. So I was not sure if the 205's would work in it or not.

I would have cut the rockers to gain more clearance. Other than that. Looks good!

It fits fine. I think this is the only pic I have of it.

The DOM was about $3.20 per foot. But that was last year, so it has gone up a good bit.

Heims are just cheap $8.00 ones from www.rodendsupply.com I've had them for about a year also. I do not remember how much the weld in bungs were.
