My buddy's heep is badass. 4 link was done by Off Road Connection (ORC) in Gardendale Alabama. If you've seen the Peterson Ultimate Adventure's, Keith Bailey owns ORC. It absolutely goes awesome. Better than alot of local tube buggies. It has done stuff some $50,000 Bruiser chassis will not.

You may or may not believe me when I say this but Keith Bailey is my cousin on my mothers side of the family! Ive been meaning to talk to him about my 62 for a while.

Keith Bailey

Keith is a nice guy, and he is funny as hell.

They do good work down at the ORC.

Hopefully, I will be getting the cruiser back rolling tomorrow. My air conditioner died at the house last week, so that took my front locker money. I'm tired of the cruiser taking up my shop so I'm just bolting my old welded carrier back in. I was having trouble making up my mind between a Lock Rite and a full Detroit anyway. I had to get a ring gear spacer because I was planning on a full Detroit.

We'll see if it has more power with 5.13 gears instead of the 4.10's.

Sweet truck.

I may be a newbee, BUT . . . as a fellow Gray Rock guy, I know that 44s ARE going to break stock 60 axles. If you have to go cheaper, at least get the chromo 30 splines. Between 4 days in Gardendale and Tellico, I worked on 5 busted 60 outers. 3 Ujoints were gone, 4 outers busted, 1 hub and 1 flange exploded.
Call Keith now unless you really love doing trail repairs on Bents and Dents.

Good luck!
Im trying to get my 22r, w56, 4.7, FJ80 front, 87 IFS rear, '72 FJ 40 model ready before the Fall For All.
Standby for the Super Budget, 22r - 8" - FJ 40 Build.

When it breaks, it breaks

When something breaks, I will get it fixed. That's about the only way to get the wifey to let me spend money on the cruiser this year. I really haven't had it in a situation rough enough yet to worry about breakage. I think it's about time to try it out. I've got most of the bugs worked out now, I think.

Boggers are very heavy and wide, so I know they will be rough on the front axle. I didn't want boggers, but traded even for them. They were better tires than what I had.

Besides, sitting in the driveway, nothing gets broken. :flipoff2:

No progress

Haven't done much lately. I went to the shop yesterday and checked my front differential finally. Everything looks OK. .011 backlash and the gear pattern looked OK. Bought some brake cleaner tonight to spray off parts that have been laying around the shop for over a month now. Now if I can find all the parts and remember how everything goes back together.

I promised the wife it would be rolling next weekend. It's got to go the muffler shop this week too. I had to cut off one of the mufflers for my trac bar.

I've got hunting on the brain now. I've got the itch for a new rifle. I'm going deer hunting in Texas over Thanksgiving, I'm trying to figure out how to get my new rifle before then. www.christensenarms.com I don't need one, but peer pressure has gotten the better of me.

I have too many hobbies. I can't afford to do any of them the way I want to.

Oh, another pic of the stinger.

Finally

Look what I finally got out of the shop. I finally got a little motivated. It's been to the muffler shop today to get exhaust fixed.

New 5.13 gears are much better than the 4.10's. More power.

This is the second time I have drove with the boggers on it, and the first time with the 5.13's. It drives good, for what it is. I ran it up to 68 mph on the way home, and it's does fine. It cruises great about 55 mph.

Snapped a few pictures with it in the driveway.

I stopped by the grocery store on the way home and a woman was taking a picture of it in the parking lot when I came out. She asked me if it was a mail heep. People crack me up sometimes!!!!

Yall have a good weekend.

Pics

Here's a few poser pics from Saturday. Dumptruck load of chert/chirt (spelling)

I really like the Holley Truck Avenger. Going up the hill, it was at a pretty good angle, never smoked/stumbled or anything.

I got it twisted up later that day, but didn't have the camera.

Winch

Even though everybody told me not too. I ordered a new 10,500 pound hydraulic winch today. I got a Milemarker.

I've read and read, and just felt that was the way I needed to go. Everybody said to get a Warn 8274. But a USED 8274, dual batteries, and a hot alternator will be more expensive than the brand new hydraulic setup.

I still have not decided which pump I will be using.

1) I got a buddy who is trying to fix up a hydraulic pump with an electric clutch.
This would be the best option imho. Just tricky getting psi and flow right. This option will be free.

2) I've got a price on new PTO and pump for the SM465. Only thing is the clutch has to be out for this to work. Can be aggravating sometimes. About $450.00 for this new. Could find a used PTO, but don't want the hassle.

3) Or just run a dedicated power steering pump. AGR makes a 1500 psi 3.4 gpm pump that will be perfect for the winch. Or I can just get a reman and do the upgrade from WTOR's website.

AGR about $150.00
Reman pump $50.00

Maybe it will be here this week. I'll get some install pictures on the way.

PSC

I've seen some of their stuff before. Looks real nice.

Nobody here likes hydraulic winches, but I think it's what I'm looking for. I'm not worried about speed of the winch, I just do not want the overheating and dead battery problems. Dual Optima batteries and a hot alternator helps, but then that's more than I paid for the winch.

I know if the cruiser will not run, then the winch will not work. But if my cruiser will not start, the day is shot anyway. I don't think I'll be flooding the truck out anytime soon. Especially after cleaning out my front axle from my muddin earlier this spring.

If my buddy can come up with a pump and electric clutch, that will be sweet. Or an electric clutch on a power steering pump would be cool also.

Anyway, the winch is on it's way. I'll have to figure something out. I will be giving it the hell test when it gets installed.

Finally started

Finally started on my winch install.

Couldn't decide all week how I wanted to mount it. I notched a piece of 6" C Channel and welded it to the frame rails and front bumper.

I still have to cut a piece for the fairlead to bolt to.

I will take off the hoses and measure them tomorrow. I'll take them to the hydraulic shop Friday. The hoses supplied with the kit were way too long.
I can have these cut and new ends put on them pretty cheap.

I've decided to try the West Texas Off Road power steering pump modification from their website. If that's doesn't work real well, I'll just order a new pump. AGR said their Rock Ram pump will run the steering sector/ram and winch.

Winch new from Tellico 4x4 with shipping/taxes/oversize charge was $608.00
C Channel was $10.00.
New lines from hydraulic shop will be less than $20.00

If the pump works ok, that will be great and save some $$$$$

Update

Got off work a little early today. Pulled the power steering pump apart and did the WTOR modifications to it.

Got my hydraulic hoses made and installed. Was $33 for hoses, power steering fluid, new o-ring, Lucas power steering treatment.

I got it all hooked up and the pump didn't want to bleed. It took it forever. Then the winch would only go one way, it wouldn't reverse. I switched some wires and found out the wiring diagram from Milemarker was wrong (It's red to green, not red to black.) Anyway, it's working fine now. I haven't messed with a winch for a long time, but it seems plenty fast in high. I've almost got the levers figured out. Maybe I'll get the fairlead on tomorrow.
