i’m going to ask my dealer why it’s so much.
I’d buy it from one of the dealers who will ship to Canada.

I’d check the suppliers in Australia.

don’t worry guys. not driving it like this!!

i do ship to Canada & i Only use UPS for all Great White North store and manual special request parts orders ,

UPS is very same in kind cost efficient a the USPS Priority Mail service level is

however there are 2 very different aspects UPS does and achieves the USPS Priority mail and Priority Mail EXPRESS EMS Getty-Up Pony Express can't touch ...
- UPS fly's right over the border and all customs red-tape paperwork and details are handled electronicky
- UPS 's base-line service to
CANADA is a 2-3 day's window ( day or 2 longer if the Canuck is in the YOUKON ) the moment the they scan the UPS tracking # in-hand , based on my method of only physically dropping of in-person in the mornings before 10:30 AM EST time zone / Skunk-Works Laboratory local time .....
- i have never seen it take longer then this to date .......yet ....
- the
USPS standard Priority mail flat rate box and or weight & dimensional Priority service ( same service level days fyi ) and the Express mail EMS
( supposed to be 2-day overnight to
CANADA , = week 's + in single digit days .....
- i like the
CANADA Spec . 🇨🇦

Based on the experience I've had dealing with ToyotaMatt I would buy parts from him.

asked the dealer about their price. they assured me the site mentioned above is not an OEM toyota part despite what they say. they said the site is lying. frankly what i paid is on par with what @ToyotaMatt is selling for so i feel they probably aren’t wrong. anyway new cap in hand. i’ll drive it to work again tomorrow!!

Hi Trevor :wrench:

- i concluded that the
Red FJ40 with the Early 1962-1972 NO Flip Down Fuel Door with the shop-rag hanging out the fuel filler neck was yours , and that's the same truck you need a replacement cap for as well ....

- am i correct or no ?

- i see a-lot of confusion and discussion in this thread between the 1st gen. cap that i show with my retainer keeper chain and the 2nd gen, one without one

- to establish a baseline starting point of clarity here , any Gas , Diesel or Fuel caps i post a Tech. photo of this includes a link to my store , both non-locking & locking w/ key's are always
100% Toyota OEM Japan Spec. parts .

.

- The Early 1st gen. cap is a 2-way vented design , ALL 1973- later / future TOYOTA Land Cruiser Gas , Diesel & Fuel Caps are a one-way inward Only vented type cap

- There is a notable size difference here , as in diameter wide , the 1st gen, is a open filler neck tube , the 2nd gen. and newer ones are reduces diameter due to the whole separation of LEAD Gas and Un-Leaded Gas pump at the filling stations , and the little spring loaded flapper door down further inside were created and designed in theory at least to prevent the older larger pump spouts from being able to dispense LEADED gas into a newer UNLEADED FUEL ONLY Toyota Vehicle
1973 - Later

.

- The 1st gen. cap originally came from the factory installed & as a over the dealership counter as a service part w/ the keeper / retainer chain , then later at one point after 1972 model year when the tank , and filler neck was updated 1973-12/78 , Toyota omitted the chain only for some un-known reason however the cap it-self remained the same . This includes the provision ( little L-tab ) with the factory punched single hole in it next to the rivet head .

- sometime after completing T-TEN in my late 20's I took my 1998 T-100 on a day trip 4weeling off-road to a a place called Thurmont , its the Fredrick County water-shed mountain top fire-trails and switchbacks from the valley floor that borders Camp David. Exploring a new and different fire trail this trip there as it transitioned into a Log Cabin's neighborhood of sorts . i spotted a super-sweet all original FST 1972 FJ40 with a tarp thrown over it and a few hours later it mine & now inside a local eazy-storage place rolled into a ground level unit .

.

This was and remains to date my only ever personal Toyota vehicle i have owned without a Fuel Door . While doing a major re-fresh / mini-meme restore i tried like Hell to find out exactly how Toyota had designed the original keeper retainer chain shown clearly in my 1967 paper parts cataloger tech pics above , to clip on / attach somehow physically inside at least 1" or more down the filler neck tube ? i could see No clip or hook , nothing ? 🤔

.

- So i designed and assembled the same exact one back then you see in my tech pics shown in my store today . This style chain-links are the same exact ones Toyota used on all BIG ( 1962-4/86 ) Radiator cap keeper chain , minus the Nickle update i add to prevent corrosion .
.

- i have seen online and have tech. photo screen shots of 3 distinct and unique Toyota OEM Fuel Cap keeper / retainer chain styles , but the cap 's did not have a different part #'s ?

- oh Edit : , well one DIESEL did below as you can see below

What site isn’t OEM and lying?

How about this $15 price from a real Toyota dealership in Richmond, VA? I buy from them all the time. Your local dealer is making up stuff to justify their markup. FWIW, I don't use my local dealership for parts because they mark them up over Toyota suggested retail price. When I ask them about their prices they just shrug. They are only there because they have to be to sell new cars.

ToyotaMatt is not an actual Toyota parts dealer by the way.

i don’t really believe my dealer to be honest. this site does say oem toyota part. but as i said earlier i dont really know who to trust these days. nothing is as advertised so buyer be ware. in the end its really more about availability. i was able to drive it today which makes me more happy than sitting at a computer trying to figure out how to get the cheapest part and nickel and diming myself over $40 bucks. don’t get me wrong i do shop around for the best price on most of my purchases but this wasnt one i felt was worth fighting. it does blow me away though how the prices can differ so
much!! oh well. call me a sucker if you want but my drive to work today was worth it!
