My '74 FJ40 has the same Filler & Cap as those pictured above.. The "Filler Neck" is original to my FJ40... from when I bought it new in Dec 1973. (I might have replaced the cap during those forty-seven years..) Maybe this will help, some.
@JAG666 thank you. Are you referencing my neck and cap photo or the one from @hobbes?My '74 FJ40 has the same Filler & Cap as those pictured above.. @73FJ40 haha, I see that now. Funny how I'm learning the internet on IH8Mud.@FJ Rock

Thank you Charles. I ordered another cap, so we shall see. Hopefully 3rd times the charm!FJRock;
Yes, I did (reference Hobbes).. That said, my "74 FJ40" has a Build Date of October 73.. In theory, it could be a "blend" of the two model years.... UNLESS there are specific in-set dates for parts placed in-service..
All that said, I've never seen a "Gas Cap" (on ANY vehicle) like the one you pictured.. Weird looking..

@LandCrusher'70 That looks a lot like mine on my 1972. Maybe mine is stock, and looks like you also have a Stant locking cap. I noticed on both my old and new cap you have to really press down and turn to make sure its secure. Same for you?FWIW:
For reference. I know mine is earlier (‘70). The first cap looks to be a ‘locking’ cap.

I have to give it a push, but not too much. I would say mine are ‘snug’.@LandCrusher'70 That looks a lot like mine on my 1972. Maybe mine is stock, and looks like you also have a Stant locking cap.
