Rebuilding a carb is more than doable for anyone, regardless of experience. Watch and follow the videos pinhead made. You'll be fine and any questions you may have during the rebuild, have likely already been asked and answered here on mud.

I private messaged him a month or so ago and he never responded. Can anybody shed some light on this?

I did everything via the Southwestern Bell. Telephone. He’s a busy man, it takes time.

I have to clean and most likely rebuild mine to some level as well. I got a carb kit from Specter Off Road but it didn't come with the float or the secondary diaphragm. But has the jets, gaskets, metal gaskets, etc. But if I need the plunger, float, or secondary diaphragm, or external springs, as some of mine are rusted, stretched, or missing, where do you get those parts? I've contacted a few of the carb sellers and no one has these parts. Any thoughts??

Update:

Just saw this thread a few pages down the line. There is a carb rebuild kit on Amazon that works for my 78 model year carb based on my model number with the remaining parts minus the float and external springs.

Send it to Jim. @FJ40Jim

Second that and Mark A. as well. Around $400 but you get back a perfect carb— time and money and money and time— all depends how you value it. For me I would pay twice what these guys charge because you know it is done right, tested and no brain damage.

Jim C. is a premier FJ40 carb rebuilder

rebuild kits can be ordered from cruiseroutfitters.com

carb parts from Jim C. or Trollhole

I have yet to see a need to replace my float in 14 years of ownership, and I don't even know how old it is (it could even be original) - just saying :meh:

Contacted Trollhole awhile back, and he doesn't sell parts, just full carbs.

How does one get a hold of Jim C.?

My mechanic was working on another 40 and he said the welding on the carb float for that 40 was messed up and allowed fuel to seep into the float; not sure if others have experienced this or not.

Anyone know of someone in Ontario Canada who could rebuild the carb on my original 78 fj40? The truck was sitting for about a decade when I got it and no matter what I do (aside from a carb rebuild), I can't get it running just right.

Are you in Ontario Canada?
