Hi everyone I just picked up a 1969 FJ40 last Friday and was really hoping that it had the ambulance doors. Well when I took a 3 hour drive to purchase her she didn't have the doors I thought it had for the rear. It's the liftgate version. Well I found someone selling the Ambulance doors and I am wondering will they fit bolt-on replacing the liftgate and bolted rear door?

Thanks,
Mark

ambulance door did start in the 40 tel 75. but the place ment of the bodum door hinges in the same place you would have to drill in to the top but not sure how you will latch the doors. but it is nice to take the doors and top off and have some thing on the end of your fj40. if you do get the ambulane doors and it doesnt work you can alwas sell it your self may even make some $ off it as will.

"bodum" ?

seriously?

I have no idea what you just said!

I'm pretty sure i'm right when i say that if you have a one piece tail gate hinged at the bottom your body will not have the recess at both sides for the ambulance door to fit into when closed. This is how my '70 was and i had to cut and weld a recess in. Hope this helps.

Post up some pictures, where are you located. I hate the ambulance doors, makes it a real pain to take off the hard top and leaves the back open or you have to put in some panel, but if you plan on keeping hard top on then they are most likely better to get in and out. Show us your new rig and welcome to mud.

I'll buy your liftgate off of you... Send me a pic... :)

^^^i was just about to say the same thing!!! don't change your set up! more hassel than it'll be worth in my opinion.

they will not be a direct bolt in and they will not fit right you will have to either modify the doors or your body/hardtop

Tailgate and half doors started back to the FJ25 until the 75 model. Tailgates were only on the soft top models. Half doors were on hard tops and a very few soft top models. 75 had ambulance doors on the hare top and tailgates on the soft top model which were dropped in 1978. Ths is only for the US market and does not applied to what the rest of the world got.

Thanks for everyones help. Appreciate the welcome cjgoode! I had no idea it required that much fabrication. I'll just spend the money elsewhere on the restore. 7228 do you have pictures of the bottom doors? I can't seem to find it on that website. All I see are links and add to cart on page 133. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

Honestly, I just want to be able to open the bottom part of the tailgate since the top gate just flips open have the bottom open up or down would be great. Any bolt on solutions?

Search for barn doors, the split doors on the bottom are often called barn doors. You would still have to open the hard top hatch to open the barn doors.

Thanks for the info Chris! I'll post up some pictures of the cruiser soon.
