You stated "you like the color of your wheels" . This made me think of Ghost Chrome - The World's Most Exotic Finishes - https://alsacorp.com/product/ghost-chrome/ .
I have used this product on two different set of wheels and I am extremely happy with the results. Have picts if your interested.
Cant tell for sure from the picture of your wheels but looks as they are painted a charcoal / dark gray color. This to me says that the wheels are painted with a product similar to Ghost Chrome.
Just saying you can color it exactly like the wheels. I prefer the gun metal in the pics but it is your rig.

A guy showed up at the 45 run ten or so years ago with a half cab 40. The coolest thing was that he kept the hatch functioning, and could open it from inside the cab and reach his ice chest in the bed for a frosty adult beverage.😉
The build I'm planning isn't a 40 shorty but an extended cab 45 and I plan on keeping the hatch operable but going to try shortened/modified ambi doors that way i can just open half ....if i can figure it out :D

Those wheels are gunmetal. That is the color I am after.

my mistake, reread your post and you did call the wheel color gunmetal. wheel color was what i was referring to when making my suggestion

Picked up this Atlas 3.8:1 Transfer Case today. Was looking at the Hero but this fell in my lap.

Yep. I’m stupid. But 4 link in rear is nearly impossible unless you make some drastic moves like stretching the frame.

You should really only need to push the axle back. It's been done plenty of times. Unless you are going for a ton of travel, the links can be pretty short.

I’m lengthening the frame and body for better proportions, so I’m there is an added bonus.

…and you’ll still be able to run an aux tank in the back, which was one of the things that turned me off from trying it.😉

Yep, As we talked about Mark, the four link with the Aux Tank was the goal. Although my suspension guy showed me an FJ40 he did that was not stretched and only had a 2" lift with a four link and the Aux Tank looks like it would still work. He did end up building a major bracket to make it work, but he pulled it off. Since there is no good four link setup on the market (that I know of) for FJ40's he is looking to make a kit. I strolled into his shop the other day and he had the initial CAD design on his monitor. You can kind of see a version of this he did if you zoom in on the circled area of this pic. Of course this one had a much more aggressive lift. More to come...

It’s more work doing your original plan, but personally I think you should stick with your plan.

Half the draw of the linked suspensions to me wasn’t the flexibility, it was and is the extended wheelbase. I have spent too much time on the end of a winch cable, trying to keep my rig from rolling over backwards because of all the rear overhang 😱 Even so, I resisted even flipping the rear springs around because of not wanting to lose the aux tank.

I think your original plan is the ‘best’ solution for a 40 that can overland and rock crawl. The other ‘best’ was @DHONDAGOD, who kept the stock length, stretched the wheelbase with a four link, and built a custom tank under both front seats, which helped the weight distribution for the steep climbs even more.

The custom tank under the seats was another option from my builder. Still have time to make that decision.
