Haha...this is for anyone who thought the "easier" trail would be too easy....

I had 3 at least 4" sidewall tears destroying my front passenger tire.

There was also a climb section where you HAD to put at least one wheel down into this really low spot, and without a locker..I couldn't get through it until the spotter, myself, and a few others loaded it up with rocks.

Hehe...changing a tire on a path that isn't much wider than the 80, high up on a cliff is always an interesting task.

I'm sure I made the day of all the FJ owners on that trail, since the $50k+ Lexus was having trouble where they just cruised by...

Do all the new FJs have a rear locker?

We had fun. Thanks for the hospitality. Cool trail, but more bypasses would have been a good thing.

On another note: The new FJC's did well from my point of view. But, I am totally impressed by the 80's out there. They made that trail look effortless.

I look forward to seeing you guys out on the trail again...

I hope you guys had fun. I was actually back in Tucson this weekend. I am not sitting at the airport waiting to go back to Houston. This post makes me really not want to relocate:frown: .

Well, good run today guys. Nice to see so many of you out there today, even if I didn't get to see you much. Kevin did you all get through alright??? I hope no one has hurt feelings about the group splitting into two. I think it probably made it more managable in the end.

I made it with no issues, we went to Crown King after for a fudge run! The day would have gone better if the "group" was split much earler IMHO?

I would love to get a group run together up the back road to crown king and then through DeSoto mine. Would be a fun run for a "slightly" smaller group ;);)

Crown King is a fun run that I'm up for anytime, but it's too hot to be fun in the middle of the summer. I wasn't impressed with DeSoto, I can think of a bunch of other trails that are higher on my list?

Well, it was an interesting day!

Ended up splitting into two groups from Mayer. We had 19 in the group for the "easy" trail run. They got to tour a good portion of the mountains south of Presott. We took a trail from Humboldt/Dewey to Walker, then over Mt. Union, and then headed south to Crown King on the Senator Hyw. Ended up getting to Cleator in time to see a few of the DeSoto group. The trail offered everyone the opportunity to use low range and the traction control system on the FJ's. I was quite impressed with the traction control system! We ended up covering about 80 miles of dirt.

I didn't get more than 2 or 3 photos - I was a bit busy...

Man, what a zoo. Good day all in all though. It was good to do some wheeling with more of the PHX folks. Juan, Rob C, Brian(kavik) John(offroader5) rode shotgun with me for a while. Clay hooked up with us on the hills above Cleator. I spent some time at the Cleator bar with Rob, Lee, Clay, and a few others. We lit outta there and hit a few other dirt roads on our way out to 17. I finally made it home about 9pm that night. I had left my house at 5:15 that morning, long day.
Thanks to the FJ team for the cool stuff, and a chance to see the FJ in action.

Oh, one more thing. I was not impressed with our "trail leader". His leading abilities and people skills left something to be desired. I will make it a point to avoid running with him again. I'm not speaking of crawler 976(I heard he was a good, patient leader), I'm talking about the Desoto run leader Steve.

Had a good time Saturday... some of those hillclimbs were a little  especially that hill that you had to make the quick right - left - right at the top... and the one before with the lip in the middle "Hey Dad we hit 25 on the Tilt-o-Meter!" :D

Followed that  silver FJC most of the way (the one that got good n stuck with the control arm mount on the rock)... would have done lots better with less air pressure in the tires and pressing that "RR DIFF LOCK" button once in a while!

Anyway looking forward to the next run.

Oh and that "Little 4Runner" made a pretty good showing... BMAN's my witness! :D

Mark, were you driving that gray runner and wearing CSC shirts? Just trying to put a face with a screen name. I was at the end of that first group, behind Juan.

Yes... My oldest son and I had the CSC shirts, Jason had the Toyota Jambo shirt... :D

Yes, it was nice meeting you msahr, wasn't sure if I had ever seen you before.
It was great wheeling with you Alvin.
I too wasn't impressed with the leader, and was even less impressed with some of the azlca crew (mainly Brad). I don't understand the attitudes on the trail. It was much better when we went out with Scott. I am sorry I missed the Fudge run Bman/kevin. That would have been a nice cap to the day.
I had a nice day, anyway. It was nice to get out, and great to see all the new FJ's wanting to get out and wheel. I liked the trail ok, I wouldn't go just to do that trail again but It would be a fun add-on to another trail.

I had an interesting coversation with one of the Azlca guys about our vs their clubs. They couldn't believe how big our club had grown compaired to theirs...I tried to explain the differences, (not having brad in the club I am sure helps alot) Then he started asking when and where we meet...might stop by.

I am happy to be a part of this great growing club.

Who was Brad? Must've missed him. Is he the current Pres?

Hey guys!

Steve was put in a difficult position. We'd anticipated a much smaller group. I'm sure he had to push folks harder than normal to make time on the trail. I've lead an annual trail ride on the DeSoto the last 4 years - the largest with 19 rigs. That was a real PITA, so I can't even imagine what it was like with well over 30, and many of them novice wheelers to boot.

Hind sight being what it is, we'd have set up three different trails to ease the load if we'd known there were gonna be over 50 rigs involved.

Not sure we were getting pushed... we waited over half an hour while a group at the bottom of a hill (2nd rock garden?) were just standing around. Didn't get any movement from them until we went down and asked why are we stopped???

Yes we had far to many rigs, and many of them novices... not good. Overall it was a good day. Hey... we were wheeling, right?
