That's it...

I've been telling myself I like it for a while now. I give up, it sucks. There are a few things I like about it, but it's just, ohhh fawk. I'll just take a 100.

That dash is hideous and the center console/stereo setup  what were they thinking?

I hope I like it better when I see it in person, but damn... what a disappointment. :frown:

Huh. I thought the interior was the best looking part. Still do. Looks utilitarian, no plasticy looking bull**** like most other vehicles anymore, clean, simple.

Diffrn't strokes, I guess.

It's like when I see it at a certain angle it looks good, but at another I hate it.

Oh well.

The dash just looks like a huge wall, but I guess if you're tall enough to see over it it would be aight. The seating looks ok.

Yeah, I think the major issue with me (and most on here, I would think) is going to be forward visibility.

It's like they took one of the worst pages out of the Hummer book to steal from, that of the narrow windshield.

It was to be at the Off Road Expo. I went to see it, and there was a "Plastic Model" of it. I asked the guy there, he said the price was to be "from the mid 20's". I was very disapointed with it not being there, just a mock up of it.

I can see all that plastic s*** on the outside getting busted all to hell. Those big assed mirors don't stand a chance. Kind of cool the way the doors open up to expose the whole interior. Pretty good ground clearance too. I'll bet they go for more than $30,000

ever try and shut an access cab truck's doors when the frame is flexed?

Doors no shutty (at least easily)

A $50 plastic panel is a lot easier and cheaper to replace than a dented metal panel, which needs to be repaired or replaced and then painted. They'll start at way less than $30k, maybe a fully loaded one with additional dealer markup (profit) will go over $30k.

It should be way below 30k. It should be priced the same as x-tera and Jeep Liberty. From the Toyota Press Release:

"The FJ Cruiser effectively fills a gap in the Toyota lineup which was once our core heritage -
capable, affordable and durable vehicles that are youthful, fun-to-drive, aggressive and tough,"
said Don Esmond, senior vice president and general manager, Toyota Division. "The FJ Cruiser
will deliver true off-road ruggedness, image and performance at a very low price, making it
highly accessible for a large volume of young buyers."

They made the windshield and dash to look like a 40 would look today. Shocker have you driven a 40. I would think there is just as much forward visibility in the new fj as there are in the old 40's. I nor you have actually sat in a new FJ so I hold my comments on how bad or good it is until then.

Blasphamy I'll tell you.

Yes, I've driven a 40. I'm not dogging on the vehicle here, sensitive, I'm just saying that could be an issue.

It's not an issue in a 40, but it looks like it could be in this.

I'll probably be sitting in one in about two and a half weeks, so I'll let you know then.

Let me elaborate as to why I think the vision could be poorer in the FJ than it is in a 40.

1. The seating position looks to be lower in the FJ

2. The hood looks to be both longer and wider in the front, nearest the grille; it does not angle toward the centerline like the 40's does. The 40 is nicer in that regard in that it's easier to see obstacles directly in front of your tire; the FJ does not have this feature as much, and instead has a molding line that kinda ingnores the original reason for that shape.

3. The windshield looks to be taller in the 40 than the FJ as well, and not just because the 40 in the above photo is sitting up higher.

These are the basis for my concerns, but, as you said, it's all really just conjecture at this point.

Yeah, I think I said it in another thread (cant remember), but they normally let you climb all over them after their "unveilings".

They also normally have 3 or 4 versions of them: one stock, and a couple with some aftermarket accessories.

Last year, for example, they had a stock tacoma, then a lifted one and a lowered one.

By Thursday or Friday, the Toyota reps are normally too exhausted to give a s*** what you do, and never even come up to talk to you as you climb inside the thing. Haha...

We'll see if it's the same for this, I bet it is. Alot of the people at these shows are the people who make the aftermarket stuff that can make cars so cool, so they pretty much let everyone have free reign to look at all the nooks and crannies.

Hmmmm might have a Honda Civic for sale soon.
