So as we all know the Denso 476-0072 evaporator is discontinued. Im looking for someone knowledgeable to repair the pin hole in the larger tube, or buy a new old stock if available. I know others have repaired thiers. Is there one available in like new condition or who is the man to talk to about properly repairing it and pressure tested. Im in South Carolina and its hotter than hell out here right now. Rigs a 1986 60. I appreciate the input! Thanks Hoping someone with a 60 has found (The Solutution) to this.

Find an old school ac or radiator shop.
They've seen enough of this stuff to know if it's repairable.
If not here are some Rock Auto options.

There are good quality aftermarket available, NEW. Some even state 'Increased Corrosion Protection'.

But if you want to take a chance on a 40-year-old Evap...
Whats the options for the 60 series? Im all ears. I did buy the four season 54156, Toyota part number coincided with Denso's. But it did not fit the box. What do you know that will fit?

88501-90A07 was the supersession that fits 81-90 60 series, including diesels. All the parts listed above say they interchange with that part number.

Maybe post a pic of your setup so maybe we can see what's going on.

When I get home tomorrow Ill get pics of both Denso and four seasons with box. Iv got to figure something out with this. It shouldn't be this hard to get this accomplished.

I didn't get pics from the shop. They just said it didn't fit. Its gotta be close. I'll double check the unit but it was ordered with the Toyota and Denso part number matching
Here's the original Denso 476 0072 and the box for the four seasons. Tomorrow I'll get a pic of both Fourseasons and the rig box.

I got one recently and it didn't quit fit either. Had to tweak the inlet/outlet pipes a bit and modify the evaporator box itself some.
Basically shaved off some material and rebuilt it. Kind of a hassle but works great.

I just replaced my evaporator and expansion valve to get ready for summer and the Four Seasons evaporator will fit. It took a little patience on the top part of the evaporator, but I was able to just tap it with a rubber mallet and it fixed itself. Been running it for a week and my A/C has never been colder, and that's here in AZ.

Did you also get a new expansion valve? Do not use the old one if you can avoid it, it was designed for R12 and I believe the new ones have different flow rates. I can hear my new Toyota OEM one opening and it is much more frequently than the old one which allows more freon to go through the evaporator.

Well there is hope! I had it at the local shop that converted the R2.8 and H55 from the old engine and 4sped to 5. Is that the new expansion valve in the bag?? I wasnt aware of upgrading that. Do you have that part you ordered info you ordered? Any other tips you can suggest to get it right? What year is your Rig? Thanks

That's the new one from Toyota - part number is 88515-87004. Took my Toyota dealer quite some time to get ahold of it, so you can also use a Denso 475-0101. I actually have a spare Denso that I ordered in case Toyota couldn't get mine in time, I was going to return it today but I'd gladly sell it to ya if you need it.

I've also got an 86 FJ60 - the only tips I could give is to make sure you have the outlet pipes oriented properly in the evaporator box - once that was done I was able to take my rubber mallet and tap it to fit. I didn't hit it very hard, just enough to make it fit in the box.

Great, I ordered the expansion valved and its on the way. Hope Glad to know yours worked. Did you have to shave anything from the box like another member did? And you used the four seasons 54156?

Yup, used the Four Seasons 54156 and didn't have to modify the evaporator box at all. Just needed a little love from a rubber mallet and I moved the lines a little bit.
