Not very good news today. Now that my body man has cleaned up everything and done all repairs and coated the doors and top sides, it has become obvious that the soda blasting warped all the large flat panels. For instance, the front doors were bowed inward close to 3/8ths+ and the top sides now show all inside supports. Has anyone had that problem with soda blasting? (what a pain in the a..)

Asking you about this tomorrow....

Sounds like the pressure was too high/too much media... Warpage is caused by the peening of the media on the panel

Is your body guy experienced with media blasting?

My body guy is very qualified for metal working but he's not the one that did the blasting. I agree, it must've been the pressure. I begged him to be careful when blasting as to not warp anything. We were both aware of just how much paint was on the top and doors. I may be wrong but it looked almost like someone used a roller with the OD green.

It is what it is and we're dealing with it. It's only money, right?... Cramp!

"It's only money, right"

It shouldnt be your money however

Thats pretty cruddy that this happened... is the blaster place going to make right? sounds like your stuck with it?

I have seen and used rollers before (college VW bus... 4 times :) ... friends not mine ) My truck I went and used mohair roller with oil based paint there are several threads here about using rollers :) mine is a DD and is so far from OEM I dont mind it :)

usually the soda blasting is much easier on the panels as compaired to 'sand' blasting

you have another truck for parts?

Yeah, I believe I'm stuck. Now. My friend that's buying the Green Machine is "friends" with the blaster. I talked to him yesterday and he said he spoke with the guy and told him, "Be easy on the Cruiser panels, they warp easily." My guess is that if I ever care to do business with them again (the jury is still out) I may get a freebie of cheap make up deal. And no, it's not my money but I'm protecting it as if it were mine. My client/friend can certainly afford it but he set a budget and I'm trying my best to stick to it.

Not exactly complete in this picture but close enough to take it. Front knuckles are rebuilt. New pads, rotors, calipers, one replaced lug stud, all repacked good bearings, new locking hub, and fresh paint. There's something missing in the picture if you can find it. Bozo that worked on this truck before was an idiot. I'm waiting on a replacement from a good source. I'm considering a custom change in the brake lines too. More on that when I get to it.

Clearly you failed to bend the tabs on the star washer. Isn't that obvious? ;)

LOL spent the day with Rainman - he's doing good work. Seems that he and I both went the MINI Cooper route previously, and both spent time on the track with the legendary stunt driver Phil Wiecks (the original Italian Job stunt driver).

Yes, the wire clip is missing. I leave that off on purpose. It lasts a whole lot longer in the drawer.

Yes, the small hard line is missing. I'm planning a modification there. One tube from the hard line on the axle straight (not straight obviously) to the caliper. I hate having a hard line to the caliper that you must take off to anything other than pads. That way I eliminate two connectors that could potentially leak.

The missing part isn't related to the caliper... Keep looking.

Ding ding. We have a winner.

the shocks... are they ome as well?

love the ford... my father has one ... he was a hotrodder in the 50's... but... when he found this ford he didnt want to rod it... its original paint 1930 A coup with rumble seat... he would love yours ... but never part with he's been to about a dozen car shows the last few years and he got trophys in all but 1... love driving his... Gorgeous! My uncle gave one (a 1931 Model A) to my brother for him to drive to high school as a senior. I was only 12 and used to spend time with it in the garage just to be with it. That's, I'm sure, why I'm building the '32. I rode in the rumble seat every chance I got. Give your Dad a thumbs up from me.

And yes, the shocks are OME as well.

I hate to do this and it may be out of bounds but I have to ask:
Does anybody know a Jacob Blystone? Lives just north of Nashville. Used to own an FJ40.

16th street.

He's not on my most favorite list right now... It's interesting. He said this was his address but that's not the house I went in when we met. Not even close.
