yea haha:) it only has 1 bit of rust bout 1.5 inch round below passanger door but that will be a easy fix

not trying to be mean but dont count on it. check under all the floor mats where the roof bolts onto the top and where the rear section bolts onto the bottom.... theres always rust somewhere only prob with them....

What he said. Rust is like pickpockets: it works in teams and is very, very sneaky.

That is a GORGEOUS truck though. I wish my 45 looked that good. Why the hemi plans? Can you get engines like that cheap down there? Are adapters available for the H55f? What's wrong with the 2F? If it runs, why not drive it like that for a while. Going fast is overrated.

More pictures please.... Especially of that trayback--I'd love to see more details of that tray.

yea i was thinking bout puttin a 2f motor in it. but from what i have been told there very slugish and dont have very good fuel consumptuion, and i can get a running 265 for $200. i am still looking into the 2f tho as it would be a easier conversion.. and how do i upload more pics as i have heaps and some of interia.:) and also i forgot to add, it has fiberglass bonnet, sticky our guard parts that hold the blinker and roof

Ditch the bumper, ditch the tradesman's rack behind the cab, some wheel arches around the rear tires, give both the body and bed a fresh coat of red and you've got a great lookin' truck :)

I agree with Oman keep it just the way it is and enjoy it :steer: You might want to think about keeping the front bumper on just to keep the kangaroo's from messing up the front end I hear they can do alot of damage at high speeds even low speeds Welcome to MUD :bounce:

Considering the brick-like shape of anything 40-series, you'll still never get great mileage even if you drop that hemi in.
I third the notion of a 2F, because it'll be a much easier swap. Yeah the 265's cheap for now, but once you factor in buying adapters, and motor mounts, and fab work, and relocating your throttle assembly, plus finding the right fuel pump, splicing your motor into the truck's wire harness, and the fact that MOPAR parts aren't cheap or very easy to come by, the 2F would have saved you from a world full of headaches. Plus that old Toy I6 will do something the Hemi will never do: really lug down in low gear.

Keep us posted! I wish I'd gotten into cruisers when I was 15!

ok. im gonna put paint for sure, 4inch old man emu lift kit, 10 inch chrome sunraisers, and stacks just a good everyday ute to cruise round in, yea i will be putting a new bullbar on for sure dnt want mr skip ruinin the whole front end, that would be a shame and there is so many of them around

HELP does anyone have and pics or some of the problems i will come across when fittin my 60series power steering and disk front end in my 68 fj45?? as many photos as possible would help great thanks

Have you found the frequently asked questions on the 40 area?

Here is the specific link page for the 60 series PS swap.

here is the info on the front axle...

https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/97283-60-series-axles-under-40-55-a.html#post1201724

The 60 series is wider by several inches so if you use that axle, you will be giving a wider footprint to the front. I thought I saw people having to move spring mounts, but don't quote me on that.

Most people that do not want that wider stance, pull the knuckle out from the 60, and swap it with what you have on your existing rig. The only issue is that depending on when your 68' was made, it could have ball and claw, instead of birf. That you really want to upgrade.

also does anyone know if this is true, i was told by the original owner that it is one of the first aussie made cruisers?? and for an extra 100 i can get another 68 with a rusted chassis and parts stolen jump on it or leave it??

I would be floored if that was built in Australia. To my knowledge, cruisers have only been built in Japan, in the Arakawa plant. But I would definitely bet it was one of "the first" 45s imported into Australia. Have you checked the frame serial number against the 45 registry to look for earlier Australian 45s?

As to the other truck, it depends on if you need parts. If yours is complete then the other may just take up space in your parents yard. But if you need parts, then a parts truck from the same year for $100 is a great deal.

As to your other questions... 60 series power steering is the same in a 45 as a 40. LOTS of info in the 40 section about PS swaps. Same with your axle question. If it were me, and the 60 series backing plates would just bolt up (I don't think they do with your rear axle)--I'd do it just to get the axle mounted parking brake. But I'd otherwise just swap discs onto your real axle. Do you have a full float rear? I don't know if 45s got them in '68.

My humble opinion is get it running and enjoy it for a while. Get a feel on how it handles and slowly start upgrading as you see fit. One of the the things I learned is, modifying comes with a trade off and sometimes it's not what you had in mind. It's looks good on paper but it's not what you envisioned at the end.

Although I don't have rear disc brakes on none of my rigs. I have noticed parking brakes on the drums are more stable than the ones located on a transfer case. And you really take notice when you are in an incline and it's not a good feeling. I wish all of my mine had parking brakes on the axle. I have not had a reason or want to convert to rear disc brakes....yet :).
