My humble opinion is get it running and enjoy it for a while. .

Fully agree. The Land Cruiser's a peculiar beast in its stock form, with alot of personality, drive it, fix it, love it!

I have noticed parking brakes on the drums are more stable than the ones located on a transfer case.

"You could park a truck on the wall with these brakes."
-Gary Kardum AKA Mudrak.

I have the same style rear drums and parking assy on my Hilux as would be in the very late-model 40-series rear axle, (and the whole run of the 60 series) and I love them, best parking brake I've used.

first of all congrats and welcome:flipoff2:!! second of all this thing is yours....go on and do whatever YOU wanna do with it.

the 265 seems like a lateral move to me. i like to use the advice chicks give other chicks about boob jobs, go a size bigger then what you think you want.......with gears the inline motors produce enough torque to get that thing wherever you want it to go. i just dont see a 265 giving you much more of anything in the way of HP or torque to make it viable. something in thte way of 350 CI motor would produce a very noticeable difference. besides, you can probably find more in the way of parts/adapters etc for a more common motor. however.....if'n you wanna put a 265 in, put the 265 in.

the 60 series axles are pretty dang bulletproof. they will also offer you a slightly wider stance. rather than switch parts why not just throw the whole axle on there? disk brakes in the front, e brake at the rear, and 3 more inches of wheelbase.if'n your gonna lift it, the wider wheelbase will come in handy. dont get that thing too top heavy!!

ok im goin to put in a mild 265 now like stage 2 cam 40thou ova pistons roller rockers u kno, also i was thinkin of funnng a 90's patrol 5speed as it if a stronger box what do you all think?

Can you get an adaptor for a later, i assume GQ patrol 5 spd? The other issue with a patrol box is the centered rear output, a cruiser is drivers side offset.

I would stick with the cruiser box, will be strong enough, just not fast shifting.

went and started the cruiser up yesterday runs like a dream, gonna leave her standard for now and put bigger rubber, new tail lights and new blinkers and fix the interior for now to get her roadworthy then later a 265 and cruiser 5sp plus power steering and front disks

so i can get a 2h diesal 60 series for 500 is it hard to put motor box power steering and front disks and would it be worth it

So i can get a 2h diesal 60 series for 500. Is it hard to put motor, transmission, power steering and front disks and would it be worth it?

Is this what you meant to type?

If so....

I like the 2F just fine, but I love diesels. A 2H would be pretty easy to swap into your 40, and with a turbo will be plenty powerful for whatever you want (plus more efficient). It could bolt right up to your current H41/42 transmission, or it could have the 5 speed H55f behind it. Which is a desirable swap in a 40 series, but means you'd have to deal with a parking brake .

The 60 series power steering swap isn't hard if you can weld. If you can't, it's still not too hard, you just have to hire a welder. And the front discs off of the 60 are a pretty easy swap. Both of these mods can be researched here, primarily in the 40 section. They are both listed in the FAQ (the 60 series PS and the disc conversion)..

If it were mine, I would almost certainly do the swap. But then, I'm a diesel nut. But I'm also not a starving student. You might be better served by just driving yours as is.

thanks for that dan, yea i can weld (doin a boiler maker apprentiship) for the diesel and f55 swaap what elso would i have to do to my cruiser as in tail shafts fuel tank as its still got the 1f and 4speed in it and what ever else is needed, diesel would be better for me in the aussie bush less to go wrong, also what about engine mounts and gearbox mounts??

You can probably get the motor mounts from any HJ-45 or HJ-47 and weld those onto your frame, or you can just weld up your own motor mounts. It's definitely not hard.:banana::banana: job.

The transmission (H55f) gets a crossmember under it, but you can either buy a crossmember from a 60/70 series and fab the mounts for that crossmember, or you can just fab your own transmission crossmember. Also not a super hard job.

You don't have to change the fuel tank, just remove the gasoline restrictor plate if your filler neck has one. Driveshafts are different length, but that's not a big deal at all.

The only other thing you have to deal with is the parking brake. Either find a parking brake that will mount to the split case T-case, or buy a late model 40 series axle (which has a parking brake built onto the axle)... Those are the easy solutions to the parking brake problem, but there are others (again, search is your friend).

If you can weld, I don't see what you are waiting for. Get burning!
