Since as often the case the Sty wonders aimlessly off topic at the slightest talk of Riboflavin or other such nonsense, I'll close the loop on this.

You need it resurfaced. Don't take it to the chain shops listed above. They will use a brake lathe and it won't be done properly, you need it actually machined properly from a machine shop. There is a step in the flywheel and that spacing needs to be machined to factory specs for proper clutch engagement. Find an old school machine shop if you can. Mine does it while I wait and depending on his mood that day normally costs me $40-100 cash.

Oh yes of course, I certainly wasn't planning on attempting to resurface myself, that said the OG machine shops are getting harder to find these days...

I am back on this again after a few months of honey do projects. Another coat applied today. Ordered a clutch alignment tool, next up: clean the new (used ) motor ,get the fly wheel turned, put in the new rear main seal.

Should I replace this clutch plate? There's 1 mm of space in that notch, seems like a lot of life left but , I am in there now....
Having the FW turned and a new T/O bearing. PP looks good. Just got the alignment tool in the mail today

Silly not to. You're already all the way in there and it's not an expensive part.

So, I had the flywheel resurfaced and didn't ask about price given it was an old school mechanic and the shop is in Sonoma which is completely country compared to Marin. OMFG He called and said it was ready. I asked what I owed him..... $280 for the resurface. wtf. seems ridiculous.

Anyway redid my battery tray w/bedliner. Snail pace getting the engine bay prepped.

You're right, everything is insultingly expensive now. Tube of caulking $17

Same or worse up here, my 21yo is constantly amazed how expensive everything is…as am I.
