Do the rear windows zip all the way out? If not, can this feature be added at some point?

Hey sorry. I'm doing my version of top and it will have all zip out windows. along with some other surprises. But it won't be ready to sell for a while and it's going to be quite pricey.

Speaking of price. Later this week I'll be adding more material options.

They are 75, 85, 115 and 145 a linear yard. Considering you need 8 linear yards to make a top. You can see they are really pricey. But these fabrics are the best material money can buy. Most is made in Germany with the other right here in the USA. Most of the materials are made for BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar and Porsche.

So a top made out of the 75 LF material would be around 1550. The 145 LF material would be a little over 2100.

That being said the canvas tops I sell for 950 are still made out of the best duck canvas you can buy. And the materials used to make it are as well. All the edging and straps (minus the tan straps) are all Sumbrella. The D rings are 316 stainless and the thread used to sew it all together is high end marine thread. Huge YKK zippers, and the thickest strongest window material money can buy.

Any names of the materials you are considering for these new tops?

Sonnenland Classic German Canvas

Sonnenland A5 German Canvas

Sonnendeck/Twillfast Convertible Topping

Stayfast Convertible Topping

With the German canvas being the top of the line.

soft top

I just found this site and forum and I wanted to see if anyone could provide me with a description, or better yet a pic, of how the soft tops are suppose to mount to the door tops and the windshield frame top. I am restoring a 65' FJ40 factory soft top but it did not have the top with it and I need to make sure I have all the correct pieces. Its my first FJ project and I'm wanting to keep everything factory correct so I have a bit of a learning curve ;), Thanks

I have attached a file that should help sorting out what you need and how it goes together. Just right click and open it up in a new page.

I still don't have it lol. I'm a bit slow. How does the soft top attach to the top of the soft doors and to the top of the windshield frame?

You need to install a channel on the windshield and slide the top through it. Then there are channels over the door and on the B pillar.

These are repros, but you get the idea...

ok thanks. I guess I have some missing parts. I have them on the door tops but nowhere else.

I think you should start a thread in the tech section and post up some pictures of what you have and we'll help you determine what you're missing.

OK I started a new thread with some pics of what I have. Sorry for hijacking your thread Trollhole I did not realize this was your thread to sell your tops.

No problem.

On another note. Customer sent door uppers. First one is done. Quite a beast to do. But the patterns and process are done. Looks great. These are black canvas to match his top from me.

Cool, So was the frame modified to the contours of the FST frame? I'm definitely interested in this option.

I was thinking I would modify the frame appropriately to fit the FST door opening then send it to you to have it recovered.

Lastly, what is the price for recovering 2 door tops?

Great work again, Marshall!

These are the bestop door uppers. They are used on modified doors that match the uppers. I've not seen fst doors with removable uppers. That being said it would be a shame to cut them up as no one is making reproductions.

If you want half doors find some hard doors and cut them up. I think they look the best.

As far as price I haven't gotten that far. It's not going to be cheap. There is a lot going on. Good news is we used the same zippers as what I make the tops out of. I'll have more detailed pics Monday. Probably a price as well.

I might make the frames as well. That might be this summer though.

My previous post wasn't worded quite right. I meant that the aftermarket soft door uppers are not designed to fit in the hard top opening. They just pressure fit against the soft top. In order to get aftermarket uppers to work properly with the FST top opening, the upper frame has to be modified to match the contour of theb-pillar.

I made a set of 1/8" steel doors that fit my STC door tops. I have a spare set of STC door tops that I am looking at modifying to fit the FST opening.

You are the only option for recovering the door frame. I have alot of marine upholsterers around here, but I want to support our Mud Vendors who support us. ;)
