Saw the Expedition One Geri Cans mentioned in an article in the October edition of Four Wheeler magazine recently and wondered if anyone has tried them yet. Specifically, if anyone has tried them on a Front Runner Wind Cheetah roof rack?

If so, what do you like/dislike about the cans and/or setup?

The sleek profile kinda appeals to me vs. the Front Runner Dual Can Holder setup.

FYI, I emailed the company a while back but haven't heard anything from them.

Thanks!

That would work well with the Front Runner rack, but the only thing that would worry me is how well the cans seal. I haven't heard of any of them leaking, but they're relatively new (compared to the plastic Scepter MFC ones).

Never tried one but they look like they'd be more trouble/difficult to handle than a regular shape/size can. There are 10lt jerry cans that would give you a lower profile and be easier to handle than full size cans.

with some straps, the expedition one "can" can be used as a short board for spine immobilization!

Loud, are you an EMT? I was thinking the exact same thing lol.

I suppose if you're somewhere where the level of medical care is so low as to be nonexistent it might be the last option to use as a spine board...but,

1. It likely isn't a good idea to strap a c-spine compromised patient to a bomb; and,

2. If I tried to transfer care to a medical provider from the field while the pt. was strapped to a gas can, at the very least I would never work in the profession again, and would have every cert. pulled immediately; and,

3. I highly doubt that any "good samaritan" law would deem this as being within the level of training or local standard of care for even the lowest level of medical training, thus, your protection from suit goes out the window.

Please don't consider using this item as a spine board.....

LOL....half the people I rescue fall into the "obviously it wouldn't be a good idea to do that" category...:grinpimp:

As an aside, you can find used spineboards for quite reasonable prices....$20-$40 each, and they fit on a roofrack just fine....

Or if you have to - at least ask them to put out their cigarette before you strap them to it. :flipoff2:

Holy cow. I think I can speak for both loud and myself when I say that we were only commenting on the appearance of the can, and not suggesting actually using it for that purpose. Doing so would be nearly as bad as the Deputy from a neighboring jurisdiction who decided that it would be a good idea to book a pipe bomb into evidence. Yes, that actually happened.

Hltopper, switch to decaf maybe?

That sounds like something that'd be found in aurora, but you said deputy...so I'm gonna guess JeffCo or Clear Creek?

Not 100 specific but I have a Windcheetah on my Tacoma and have test mounted the Geri cans on it, it worked out nicely. As I have an entire bed for things like fuel cans I didn't proceed with the mounting but if I ever do I would use the RotoPax mounts with the Geri cans.

Thanks for all the great information and links to other equipment. Greatly appreciate it.

Although I'm leaning to the dual can holder from FR, I wonder if I purchased the "geri" can (??) that after I used it for spine injuries if it could then be used as a sort of sand track (lol).

Sorry - couldn't resist.

BTW, why would anyone call those things "geri" cans? . . .

"Jerry" cans, because they were invented by the Germans just prior to WWII, and "Jerry" was slang for "German".

Gotta hand it to German engineering, these are still THE gas can design more than 70 years later...

edit: I'm referring to real Jerry cans as depicted in post #4, and as used by NATO and most other modern armies even today. There are many reasons why they are superior to all others.
