Today I got started on the adjustable upper links for the rear. Rear driveshaft has been pissed with the additional lift. And I mean pissed! Letting off the gas produces a very loud growl. I swear cars next to me on the freeway can hear it. And I know it's the pinion angle because when I had it loaded up with gear this weekend the grumbles weren't as bad.

Nothing fancy, just some DOM tubing and link adjusters.

SLICK ROCK - NORCAL

@AMMO and I did another quick day trip to Slick Rock. Haven't been to this trail since 2012, the summer I bought my 80. Trail sure seems like it's gotten worse. A lot more chewed up and dug out since my last visit. That actually made it fun! Pretty quick run, made it from Alpine to Utica in about 2.5hrs and that included waiting for traffic on the Staircase.

Top of "Slick Rock" road. Really steep descent. Towards the bottom you can be standing on the brake pedal and the truck just slides. Good times

REAR SWAY BAR LINKS/DISCONNECTS

Rear sway bar links were trashed and ready to snap. They were also way too short after the taller lift even though I had the drop brackets. With the front being so flexy now the rear sway bar limits movement in the back too much so I want to disconnect it while wheeling. But securing the bar is not as easy as the front because it attaches to the axle vs the frame. So here's what I came up with. Nothing fancy as I mostly view this as a temporary band-aid solution. What I'd really want is a splined sway bar up the frame behind the axle with arms that articulate with the axle (Antirock style) so this is just a quick fix to get a bit more movement in the rear and not have to remove the whole sway bar.

You can see I originally intended to have a disconnect in the middle of the link with the twin tube design. But I thought the sway bar might hit the upper link that was still attached to the frame so I scrapped that idea.

This is how it will look while connected. To disconnect, I need to pull the lower pin then undo the 1 nut holding the bushings in place.

Then the sway bar will rest on the lower control arm with a simple bracket. I put this together with some extra hardware I had laying around so I may make something nicer if this works. For now it's just a 6" carriage bolt and piece of scrap metal. Can anybody think of a reason why this won't work? Seems like it would. Sway bar can't hang down and get caught on anything, and if it hits a rock it will simply get pushed up and out of the way.

I wanted to point out also for those 3 link "na sayers"

If you watch the staircase vid, and notice in this staircase pic I lifted my front drivers several times taking basically the same line as Jose...

He never lifted a tire.

Tires in the air look cool, but provide no traction....
