Personally I would have a hard time dumping conversion money into a 80 that old. Even though you will never be able to recoup your investment a newer model with lockers would make more economical sense.

Having driven a 4BT you could not give one for free due to vibs/noise - sorry 4BT guys. 6BT is in a whole different class.

If money is not a concern a LS3 with a 6speed would be a great choice with a ~4.0 1st gear

The practicality side of me says easiest, cheapest, and best supported is 6.0L truck LS.

The Toyota side of me is still a big fan of the 1FZ and 2UZ, hell I would even like to see a 3UZ which is just over 300hp, 325ft/lbs and all aluminum. But let me tell you it is incredibly frustrating trying to make Toyota stuff work with the aftermarket support that exists currently.

What do you mean by "Trip low?"

Also did you use the truck intake or one from a car?

I'm running dual transfer cases so both of them in low and the transmission is low and I'm running the truck intake and Camaro oil pan truck intake gives you more torque than the car intake does

Truck intake fit under the stock hood ok?

I'll dig into your build thread but figure these quick answers here can help others.

Truck intake fit under the stock hood ok?

Seeing how low the car intake sits in an 80 after a swap, I think the truck intake should have plenty of room to fit without having to mod the hood.

People often forget how HUGE the f and fz are and how compact the SBC's are. An inline 6 is very tall and a SBC (even with TBI or carb intake and a big filter on top) is more like an oversized pumpkin or watermelon  My 62 with a TBI 5.7 had so much room under the hood two people could climb in at the same time

I'm running stock radiator with Ford Contour dual fans no overheating whatsoever my radiator is the 91 witches metal not plastic also if you want to run your air intake like mine I have leftover 4 inch plastic pipe from mine that I will make a deal with you. I'm running dirty dingo adjustable LS mounts if you're planning on running AC that's one thing that I would do different I will get my mounts too far forward to use the factory LS A/C compressor. If you have any questions and want to speak with me send me a PM and I'll send you my number
