I would say the 05 -06 engine out of the Tundra would have plenty of power to move you right along. I have a 06 Tundra DC and the power plant is great.

sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been giving the chassis some more thought and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with a 60 series frame with 3.73:1 gears with a 4" lift on 35's. The power plant is gonna be an '04 or '05 Tundra 4.7 v-8 4x4 motor. I've found one at the local salvage yard for $800 with 50k miles from a '05 Tundra. Do you guys think that will be enough power to push the truck?

That 4.7 pushed my former '02 100 series very well. How much do you expect your rig to weigh? Do you ever want to tow with it?

Love your build!

Try to find an older (pre-VVTI) engine, you'll pull all your hair out trying to get that '05 wired :frown:

Truck looks awesome!

Very cool. Looking forward to watching this build.

Did I miss where you said what you are doing to finish it behind the cab?

WOW very nice .... so I guess the top wont come off ??

Thanks fellas, well what do you guys think would be a good power plant set up for this cruiser? I want to go with some sort of 8 cylinder, just not sure what would be the best fit. Something in the Toyota family that is up to date and has plenty of power!

Kling-on, yes the top will not be coming off. Justin and I could not come up with a good idea on how to make it a complete two piece that would look good and give the b-pillar the strength to take the abuse as the door strike and secure the hinges for the abuse of second door opening and closing. Does this make sense?

the 4.7 would be awesome in this build. I have one in my sequoia I wish it was in my 80. It really moves that heavy truck.

I agree with the guys about the non VVT motor. wiring will be tough with the non VVT. VVT looked horrible. but i hate wiring...

There are a few detailed threads on put the 2UZ in 80 series landcruisers to get an idea of what you are looking at. I do think it would be easier to swap into your 45 then an 80 since you are essentially starting from scratch.

Here is a link to a 4.7 swap in an 80

may help ya may not. the guy that swapped it is cool and is more than happy to answer questions.

keep it going man lookin' sweet!

Heads up Ready...... If you want the frame from under the black 60 you better act fast as its going to the crap yard soon.....

Thanks for the heads up Grant, I think I'm gonna pass and try to get a complete rolling chassis. It will help me out a lot having it on wheels. I will be posting up some more pics tonight.

Ready

Well its been a week or two since I last posted-and here is where we're at. Most of the cab is done, both driver and passenger sides are done and everything is lining up pretty good. Still a little adjustments here and there, but I'm very happy with the progress so far. I'm hoping to have the roof done as well as floor fabricated by the end of the week and then finally off to the media blaster

How was the 18 gauge steel to work with?

I got thinking it would be easier to weld.

But when I got to the shop with it i realized I would be trying to weld together two different thicknesses .

I may trade it out for a thinner piece. It seems like it would be hard to bend.

Cool Build!!!

lenross1-we wanted to use 16 gauge steel, but with out a rolling tool it's real hard to make that bend with such a small piece. 18 gauge bends a lot easier and makes more sense to use for rounded corners. We will try and use 16 gauge for the roof as well as the new floor.
Looking back at some of the earlier post I noticed that Paul-lomusass said he had a complete cab available if anyone needed it. I was wondering what someone would be willing to pay for a complete cab w-cowl no doors titled w-DMV?
