Interesting find Pappy. I looked in their catalogue; one Toyota application 8 7/8" LC. Looks like it might fit at least the rear of the FJ40.

They make one for the LCs and I would seriously consider it.

I think the diff Auburn makes for the LC is an LSD, not the ECTED Locker.

I don't even find one for the Dana 60! Yes for the Dana 44 and some others.

I stand corrected. That is not the ECTED locker for the Toyota application.

This looks like a different deal. Auburn Gear ECTED - LOCKER. It looks different than what Hilux posted. This is a LSD with an electric locker. No Toyota applications.

So it sounds like they DO make these for a 40 series axle application? I was rooting around on the web and found them for a lot of non Toyota apps but very little information otherwise. Anyone have a link to were the Toy app ECTED is being sold?
Thanks
John

That Auburn 8 7/8 application is an LSD, not an elocker. You misread our conclusion from above:

Leading Manufacturer of Traction Enchancing Differentials & Planetary Drives - Auburn Gear=

You can check the Eaton website but the last time I looked they still weren't making any elockers to fit a Toyota.

I guess I did. As I understood it this product was selectable, LSD normal and a locker when switched on. There is clearly a debate about how well it locks when engaged or if it fully locks at all.:hhmm:

Just to make sure we're on the same page. That Auburn ECTED locker is selectable, LSD normal and locker when switched on. It is not made to fit any Toyota diff. The 8 7/8 Toyota application that I mentioned is NOT the ECTED locker. It is just a plain old ordinary Auburn LSD.

Oh yes, sadly, we are on the same page. I had hoped that there was finally a selectable locker for a Toyota application other than ARB, that didn't entail changing out axles like the Toyota cable or e-lockers. Since I'm not planning on changing out axles then it seems that ARB it will be.

so this question came up today with me and hypoid. Is there a limited slip diff available for the 7.5" ifs diff?

Looks like the answer is yes. I think this is the wrong thread for this though.

Short answer seems to be at least the Detroit Trutrac (Torsen style) and the Supra 7.5, and probably others. The long answer should probably show up in a locker FAQ. I might be the right web wheeler for that, but here's the wrong place.

you might be right but don't short out the rest of us who are here and interested in the answer as well. Then we can see if this all can be organized into a decent locker faq.
If we are in a FAQ kind of writing mood it might not be a BAD thing if someone were to explain the nomenclature being used to describe Toyota axles, e.g., 8" low pinion, 8" high pinion, 9"low pinion, 8.7/8 and 7.5 differentials (what is being measured) and laid out to date which locker choices are out there for each application.
Thanks,
John

Here is the link that is in the FAQ which is a comprehensive discussion on Toyota axles and differentials:

Erik's Toyota Differential info

The only limited slip type differential that I'm aware of for the 7.5" front diff is the Detroit Truetrac. I'm sure there are others but I don't know what they are. FWIW, if I was going to put a non-selectable locker of any type in my front diff (8" or 7.5"), I would choose the Detroit Truetrac. Also, just FYI, a lot of people wouldn't refer to this locker as limited slip as it's not a clutch disk type LSD which requires special diff fluid. I think Eaton refers to it as a helical gear-type limited slip differential.

Here's an excellent write-up on Roger Brown's website which discusses this locker in detail:

Detroit TrueTrac® Differential

Eaton (Detroit) may also make a true, clutch disk type, Limited slip for a 7.5" Toyota but I can't get their application guide to open:

Differentials

It's at this link if you can get it to open.

Hey guys-

Just in case you miss the stickies at the top (I don't pay that much attention after they've shown up) I just spent a surprising amount of time doing a locker writeup for the FAQ and am seeking revision comment.

Thanks
