Work

Looking good, yeah that's what happens, you start getting psyched, then get carried away.
Worth it in the long run.
Keep the work up.

Yeah it will be worth it in the long run. I dream every night about my first run in the bush! I have really enjoyed the time that I have put in so far. I am looking forward to my first crack at using some filler and sanding it down to get the old 47 back into shape. I know that will take some time but its going to be fun, you only get out what you put in:steer:

Cut out a rather large dint in the cab floor under the passenger seat. Made a patch panel and started to weld it in. I tried to tap it out then tap with an oxy but no luck, too much stretching for my panel beating skills or lack thereof. Much faster for me to cut it out.

Finished welding the patch under the passenger seat, then ground the weld flush and a quick wire wheel for a photo!

I massaged a few small dints out if the rear cab wall. They turned out nice a flat, so that will turn out good I hope with some coats of primer/sanding or if not, some filler.

Then I turned my attention to the rear left quarter of the cab.

I can't find a good photo of the area from the inside cab before i started but the rear floor in the corner suffered a heap of stretching, it looked like something pushed up from underneath and left a really ugly dint. Pretty much put a dint about 5/8" up and along where the jack is stored to the door jam, this damage also pulled the rear wall in and bent the rear seam.

I started tapping and tapping, from under the cab and inside the cab, try to push this thing out but I was getting nowhere fast so I cut my losses, well I did after a drilled the spot weld out anyway.

While I was down on the floor I had a look at the bend in the rear wall seam and decided to cut it out as well as the bent up rear floor section. When the cutting was done I went to work straightening the floor and surrounding panels.

That made me feel better, all the bent parts that I can't fix sitting on my shed floor and not on my cruiser.

I stole this piece from the 45 cab, and filed it to fit in the hole I made. I straightened out the floor piece I cut out but I am not going to use it, instead I will make a new floor corner section and wed it in, then weld the seam patch in, then the outside curved corner, which I will have to make as well. I don't have the material at this point in time so that will have to wait.

I also got this bad boy in the mail at the end of last week!

Secretly ordered off ebay by my wife! I was looking at this one and next thing I know I was tripping over it at my back door. It's a 10 gal/40L capacity. /its just a cheapy but I am so far pretty happy with it but the fittings/ valves where not great, so I grabbed some better quality fittings, valves and a filter/regulator and fitted them so the new sand blaster pot got an instant upgrade!

Hopefully it will cut the mustard! and the paint/rust too!

:clap:I used a blaster like that to do a friends LC bonnet, I think it was a Chicago brand hear in the states. Boy that little blaster was impressive for a small unit. That unit will do all you need and more. It's a big help with the rust and especially when your welding.
Looking very good.
Makes me want to start another project.......no I better spend some time with my wife.
Cheers

I fired up the sand blaster today and WOW! This thing is a machine!

Why did I not buy this thing at the start???

Thanks goes out to love2fly for giving me the little push in the right direction

Had a quick crack on the bell housing/engine plate. Took like 1 minute to clean it up, man I am happy

Can't wait to see how the frame cleans up!

Went out to the farm for lunch today and pulled the windscreen frame and the upper door jam off as the ones from the 45 cab have rust holes and the 47 ones are all but rust free.

I also pointed the hose at the frame and cleaned it up a bit while I was there. Looks like it only has surface rust so I could be lucky!

When we got home I pulled the windscreen frame out of the car and could help myself. Off with the visor, rear view mirror, air vents, brackets and windscreen wiper assembly.

I pulled the inside glass seal from the corner towards the glass and lightly worked it down and out she popped. It took me about 20 seconds to get it out. I suppose there has to be some benefits working in a hot shed in summer!

After that I had some beers! Mmmmmmmmm cold beer!

G'day cruiser heads, it's been a little while since my update. Although I haven't done much, I am making progress. Work and life in general seams to get in the way and they leave little time. Anyway, as you can see in this pic the left side firewall brace has been bent right back onto the firewall so I drilled out the spot welds and tore it off and got the good one off the other cab as well.

Looking good

Yeah sandblasting (when done right) as far as I am concerned makes the job much faster and the end results are much better. Your work is excellent and you should be very happy with your ride when done.
:cheers::beer:

Good work and progress! Love sand blasting. Decades of rust gone in seconds.

love2fly & 82cruiser, thanks for the kind words. Hopefully I get better at this as I go along. Slow and steady at the moment but it will speed up again. I can't wait for the first drive :steer: but I am also really enjoying swinging off the tools:wrench: and learning how everything goes and works together. Definately a great experience to build up your own vehicle, there won't be much that I can't fix on it myself once I am done!
