The white 4 runner used to be yours and it evidently is rubi- worthy. But no 80's? Guess it's not a wheel base issue?.

That little 4runner is pretty well put together; vortech 4.3 V6, 4L60e auto, dual cases with 23 spline upgrades and 4.7s, built high pinion longed ARBd front, taco ARBd rear with better shafts, riding on alcans and grooved beadlocked 37" MTRs, 4x4labs slivers and rear bumper,......the list goes on. that fawker is part Billy goat.

Just sayin

I think it would be a large stretch to get everything you need at the Rubithon for a family of 4 in anything other than a wagon. If you packed like a backpacker, you might could strap enough stuff on the Zuk to get in there, but to live for 4 days out of it would be really hard.

We went in and did not go out daily to wheel like some folks do. We parked at the Springs and hiked, played in the river and overall just enjoyed being there.

The wheeling on the Rubicon and on the few options that are there is not really worth driving a buggy if you have to sacrifice the comforts. The ultimate would be to have both there. One to pack all the stuff, one to go out wheeling in.

We went in and out the same way like Jebber and crew did. Doing that, we got all the wheeling in we wanted to do. I drove a mini truck with a camper shell that was very similar in size to my 80 and we had no problems. Sliders and bumpers for sure as you use them in the Sluice's.

I won't be going, but I can offer advice from my experience. If you guys make this trip from MS, take the wagons. It is 100% not about the wheeling when you do the Rubicon, it is about the experience and you can have that same experience in any capable vehicle but you need room for gear.
,

I got both, the 40(w/ 1 ton drivetrain, and it should be ready by then) or the 80(should have sliders, rear bumper and 35's(tires).

now how do you pack for 4 days for 4 persons?

...that's the question!

Question:

can you pull one of those military trailers w/ tent and camp gear behind the 40 or the 80?

I thinks I have seen some of those, I just don't know if they were on the same trails!

may be it was on the bunny trails?

This would be a kid free trip so that leaves it an option to take the Zuk. I don't care if we show up on roller blades and catch rides along with others. Just want to go!

I wish I could say that, "Kid Free trip"!

This is one of the trips that I would like to do w/ the family!

...Even if I wanted to, I don't think I could do this trip w/ out my family!

I see this trip like once in a life time opportunity... not to mention, the company of you all!

Just like you said, "it's an over the top trip for us, and a yearly event for the Californians"

I don't speak Chinese but it sounds cool lol!
I figured as much, but just thinking in terms of having the tollesons with us = 80

Jeff,
It was great to meet you, and camp with you! This was one of my more memorable trips on the Con to date..

Cheers!

Bionic, aka Sean, brought his 40 with a trailer. Should be able to get lots of stuff with a roof rack. Also, really no reason to have everyone take a grill. Good planning = not having many duplicate items in the camp.

Mark, Great meeting you too. Hope to see you next time I'm back out there. Or you should head out to Texas or Arkansas sometime.:D

If that is an option then I call dibs on Georg's truck.:flipoff2::grinpimp:

That would put you in direct competition with sheilalala... I hate it for ya jeff, but you would lose ; )

Thats awesome that you got to ride in the chopper! I am so jealous! Got any pics from up high?

Has anyone looked into shipping cars over rail. I don't know if it would be reasonable but could be a way to get your own rig out there.

how many of these trucks are going on rail?

....from where to where?

I can find out for you all if that's doable, I am pretty sure it is.

I'll ask my boss, he was an executive from Union Pacific, now retired from them and working w/ us.

this is something to look into, even for me!

Ummm he'll naw! I reject that dib as if it never happened!

i'm not gonna reply to each quote seperately but here goes:

no reason not to bring an 80. with som patience and proper spotting/driving, thi trail is not impossible and still a great time. a 40 on 33s will do it just the same. at least one locker is a must.
buy something out here and wheel it? that kinda kills the whole idea, does'nt it. brin yor junk, wheel it and tell stories for many years. why6 do y'all think we bring our rigs to TX every year?!

2013 is two years from now. i know most of you don't think i can pull it off but i might just manage to find my next-ex-wife by then. you never know. and if that does'nt work out for me, i will be bringing my son. he'll be 5 years old and definetly ready for the con. on second thought, scratch that next-ex idea. i'm bringing my boy. chicks are nothing but trouble. i'm living proof. :o
