Yes I know this is out there, but this is a reaffirmation.

Some on here found the Koyo 1918 on CARid for around 200 and had it actually shipped to them. So then more members ordered from CARid only to have the TYC Chinese made radiator sent in its place.

I was hoping this still wasn't the case as the add specifically states its a Koyo rad... but I was another one for them.
Listing Here:
Koyorad® 1918 - Radiator

Anyway after a phone call to them basically ripping them a new one about this they told me "Actually the Koyo was out of stock so they sent this instead" I told them I was part of an online community which has run into that exact excuse before years ago. Asked them why they have a miss-leading advertisement and making money off of a bait and switch. She said she could have the radiator returned, but I don't have that option. I HAVE to install it to get my truck back home. She then asked if I would like a supervisor to call me back I said sure. I let her know that I was not upset with her but asked her to put herself in my shoes. She agreed that it was wrong. Especially since there were "no notes" in the file that they called to alert me about the switch.

After I got off the phone a $25 "as promised" gift certificate showed up in my inbox from them. guess they forgot to tell me about that too.

Regardless I have to put this damn thing in, don't really have a choice.

Anywho pissed that they keep pulling this. It's not over yet.

What'd you end up getting from them? Pics?

Well damn... I considered ordering a KoyoRad radiator from them, but after reading several recent posts of people getting defective/leaking KoyoRad radiators from them on Mud, I made the conclusion that they likely have a bad batch; not worth the gamble. I ended up paying more and ordering elsewhere. I'm sorry you got hosed by these folks.

sure I get that. And I am a firm believer in you pay for what you get. But.... BUT there have been several people on here who received a TYC box with a Koyorad box inside and a Koyo radiator inside of that. So now they are marketing the same thing but switching out their radiator before you get it.

I have a problem with that. If its out of stock / can get it or whatever, then advertise it as such. Not something it isn't.

I've never heard of anyone ordering a Koyo and getting a TYC but I HAVE heard of people ordering a TYC and getting a Koyo. I tried that gamble and lost. Ended up ordering a Koyo (advertised as being a Koyo, not TYC) from CarID and got a Koyo for $176 delivered. I'd be pissed if I were you. They should let you keep that one until they can send you a Koyo then let you return the cheap one.

Its BS a 5 min google search turns up tons of the same issues not just for the 1918 but many types of koyorads. they bait and switch, then when pressed say that "TYC makes Koyo radiators" then when pressed more they say "it was out of stock so we shipped the TYC"

It doesn't look any different than the spectra I just put in, but it is certainly not a koyo.

Edit* I don't think that CarID really knows that their vendor is doing this. They were very helpful and understanding. They don't stock these items in house, TYC is their vendor and ships these items from their warehouse in china or where-ever.

I have been talking with a supervisor over there. I paid 164 before shipping for the radiator, I can get a TYC 1918 on rockauto for 111 before shipping.

They are telling me that TYC is the distributor and Koyo is the manufacturer. TYC is Chinese. I believe what they are doing is marketing the radiator as a koyo, making a cheap reverse engineered knock off with the same part number and swapping it with the claim that the "koyo was out of stock". Pretty Clever I'll give them that, still sheisty as hell.

Then they pocket the extra $53. So they are basically using a reputable Japanese product to sell their s***ty product. Sell the Japanese quality but fail to provide that quality to the consumer and fail to compensate Koyo for their design. Which, based on my google law skills, I believe is a violation of international trade and copyright laws. Not that china cares, look at what they have been doing with their cars!

China has been doing this more and more recently. Things like the $30 Baofeng radio which is a knock off of good Yaesu and other Japanese Ham 100 dollar radios. I'm getting tired of their blatant infringements.

I told them I don't care to return the radiator, it needs to go in tonight. But I do want a refund of the difference in price. China isn't going to steal from me that easily. They are going to have to hack my financial institution to steal my money!

I've spoke extensively with Koyo about their's, and TYC's, radiators. Koyo, in fact, makes radiators for TYC as TYC doesn't make anything, only redistributes. BUT the radiator will say Koyo if it's a Koyo regardless of who is selling it. Koyo rep said the version of Koyo that TYC gets is the exact same as everyone else. Same parts, assembly, workers and plant. Our radiators, the 1918, aren't made in Japan, it's Phillipines I believe. Or Indonesia but 100% sure it's not Japan or China.

OK well the whole TYC "Made in China" sticker on the radiator made me think otherwise.

I am going through the same thing with CARiD right now. They wont even acknowledge that they sent me the wrong item. Instead they are telling me that TYC is the distributor and that this is what I ordered even though I ordered a Koyorad. The metal edge of the radiator itself is even imprinted with TYC!

Aluminum or copper core? Most online Toyota parts dealers call it unobtainium but EB Toyota in MA shows it on their site for $321. They also show the Aluminum 16400-66081 for $345 which, according to them, won’t fit my 1993. I have been under the impression that all years FZJ80 radiator fitment is the same.

Copper core. Fits my 1994 perfectly.

Do you monitor water temps real time or are you on the factory gauge only? How does it cool your engine down there in the inferno?

I just received a GPI Racing all alumnum radiator I got from eBay via China. @cjmoon put one in his 80 and it worked out but the one I have here is not fitting well at all (too small) and I don’t feel like spending time and money to make it fit right so I’m shopping again.

I don’t care for plastic tanks but a Toyota radiator or a Koyo A1918 are the two I’m considering now. The Ron Davis is north of a grand so that’s pretty much out and I don’t feel like trying anymore chinesium “Racing radiators”.
