What year are you doing the installation into? My recommendation is that if its 72 and below have an experienced mechanic do the install. 2 piece city racer kit is alot more staightforward and forgiving.Does anyone have any video documentation of installing EPS into their cruiser? I'm a total noob mechanic. Thanks!
My FJ40 is a 1971 but has a floor shifter (3-speed). It is also a non-US model. I live about an hour from OTRAMM and Iron Pig. Do you think its a fun beginner project? Definitely not a beginner project. Steering is fun till it’s not, can you weld?My FJ40 is a 1971 but has a floor shifter (3-speed). It is also a non-US model. I live about an hour from OTRAMM and Iron Pig. Do you think its a fun beginner project? Thanks!
Smart move is to switch to a later rebuilt 2piece box with a ujoint. - then you can assemble kit and drop into steering box in one piece, rag joint end doesn’t leave enough space and has to be assembled in pieces.Keep in mind that eps reuses your old 50+ year steering box, so its operating condition is critical.
And the poor design of the old steering system will all still be there accept it is now power steering. All the moving parts are still there and will still wonder when driving on the highway. That is why I when to later Toyota PS box and did high steer with DOM tubing and FJ80 TREs. Looking forward to driving it again to see how much it improved.Keep in mind that eps reuses your old 50+ year steering box, so its operating condition is critical.
It’s night and day, the 60 conversions that i’ve done handle completely different. And the poor design of the old steering system will all still be there accept it is now power steering.
