My 9/69 build FJ40 has a 1974 engine and distributor installed, but when i bought it came with this one in a box of parts. I'm guessing it's a late 60's vacuum advance but cant find a model number to match it to. Looks like a 19100-60042 but not quite. It doesn't have the oil drain plug but has the boss where that would have been drilled. Has a metal octane selector. Anyone know the year the oil fill plug went away?

An original 60042 would have had a large hexagonal fitting on the outer face of the vacuum advance diaphragm, with a similar brass fitting that threaded into it, and then a third, smaller fitting that threaded into that.

The early 60061 dizzies had the same diaphragm. The later ones had the simple nipple that yours has. So…
your diaphragm could have been changed…or you could just have a later version of the 60061.

Another clue: the 60042 & the early 60061 had a brass post on the points plate, and a 2 piece set of points was held to that post with a small hairpin clip. The later 60061 had one-piece points.

For a comparison of the two types of points used in the small cap distributors check out the thread linked below (Post #1). The photos also illustrate the advancer differences pointed out by @65swb45.

Hard to tell which points would have been original because this had a "remanufactured" sticker on the side of it and the brass upper bearing is a replacement. Definitely seems like a crossover year though. I was really just trying to determine if this was the original distributor to the truck or not. Seems like it could be but im thinking this is a late 68 or early 69 version.

Should be easy to test if Vac advance or retard. Have you looked in the manuals to try and compare the pic's/description?

Like 20 years ago I took a Toyota dizzy that came on a used engine apart and mixed and matched parts to fix up a worn Delco that came with my rig in 82. A few months ago I bought a chinaneesium delco off Amoron for $120. It is running great.
Vacuum advance for sure. Good to know a new replacement will work. Im hoping I can get this one running and swap out the 74 retard version for it

Can anyone play this game?

It would appear this is the same 19100-61080 no? The later non-USA (61180) had a cut out for an insulater and different wiring correct?

The type of distributor points is a solid clue. Points as used in the 1/75 through 9/77 2F distributors were used in the 19100-61080 non-US distributors.
Shoot. I didn't think to get a pic inside. I will click one tomorrow and post up. I have my fingers crossed it is actually a 61080. It came in a box of parts from Canada.

I bought one for my '71 FJ40 over 25 years ago. Back in those days they were commonly sourced through TPI. I still have the paperwork. TPI still sells tune-up kits for the 19100-61080 distributors, along with the correct distributor cap.

Bob Hollingsworth is still at it. Mostly sells motorcycle parts now but he was at GSMTR the last couple of years.

Yep, those are 2F type points. Also used in other Toyota 6-cylinder distributors, such as in 2M and 4M engines used in Coronas and Mark IIs.
Sweet. So do I need a different breaker plate to run a Pertronix 1665A or can I run a 1662LS which would go in a '75 to "77 dizzy?
