I have thought of the step as well but I'm not sure there is room between the body and bumper to have a deep enough recess for a step.

I think most have said the things I would like and you already have.

I didn't see anything as far as a ladder mount. I use my rig a lot as an overland vehicle and it would be nice to have the spare on one side with the easy open option that you had mentioned already with the other side have a ladder closest to the body and a second swing out that can hold your other accessories such as rotopax or just a cooler rack. So the outer mount would latch onto the ladder rack. Does that make sense? Some one else had mentioned steps in the bumper too. I thought that would be nice.

So people actually use the ladder? I guess being 6'5" I have never needed one. I guess I will need to keep my shorter fellow 100 owners in mind[emoji6]

I think the shortest swing out possible to hold up to a 35" tire and open with one hand would be best. The longer the swing out, the harder to open the trunk doors because the swing out will have to open up all the way.

So I have been having guys ready to pay me now but I won't be taking any money until I'm ready to start building these. What I can do is start a list of those who will be most likely ordering one. Nothing will be set in stone but I do need to get an idea of how many I will need to have cut on the first run.

If you want on the wait list just (like) this post and I will start a list in the order the likes come in, or send me a pm. This will be the order I will start building the bumpers. Again, no deposit required just need an idea of how many bumpers I will need.
Thanks guys, now let's see who will get the first rear bumper [emoji6]
Please don't (like) this post unless you want on the build list.

Ben. Did I miss it, or do you have anticipated pricing?
The price will likely start at $1200ish and go up from there depending on options. Swing outs will get costly and Likely cost more than the bumper.
For the loaded bumper with swingouts will be in the $2500 range.

Awesome. Thanks ben. Might have to save up a bit more coin!
No worries, the rears get pricey quick!
I'll prob have about $1000-1200 just into materials with the dual swingouts.

Ben- maybe you can answer this as its something I have wondered about. Generally speaking, rear bumpers are quite a bit more costly than fronts, sometimes 2-3x more. Why is that? I have no knowledge of raw material pricing, is it that much higher than fronts? Or do rears take twice as much in labor? I understand people have to eat, that's not what I am questioning. I am just curious as to why they cost so much more. I am not a fabricator, hence the question.

It's not really the bumper but the swingouts that end up costing. A lot of expensive hardware is involved with the
Swing arms, hinges , latches bump stomps, gas struts ect, ect.

I think what will be nice about this bumper is all the options to fit the customers need and budget. All bumpers will be set up to accommodate dual swing outs but those will hopefully not need to be ordered at the same time, or just the tire side could be ordered.
I will not know the exact cost until I get a final production cost so as of now the numbers are just an educated guess.
But I do expect production cost to be double or even triple the front bumper.

Thanks for that, good to know some insight on this topic.

And if I read the above correctly, it sounds like the rear bumpers can be ordered/installed now but swing outs can be added sometime in the future? If that is correct, that is very attractive for people's budgets and needs.

That is the plan, it will all depend on how dialed I get production of the swing arms so I do not need the bumper to build them.

Very well said!!!
* my words are NOT pointed to anyone specific here :) *
I think most people out there have been addicted to the 100% satisfaction X money back guarantee! Cheap, low quality, send back if "I'm not happy all the time" kind of thinking!
I've worked doing classic car restoration for a wile now and although I didn't owned the business I can see how almost all the customers have the mentality that we have to get it done fast and cheap! "BUT, make sure my car will win every car show I take it to!"
That can run down the line as well going from customer to shop owner, then to boss all the way to the guy actually doing the job! It's hard sometimes to dig in and put out the extra effort necessary to get those results!
Ben has done an awesome job bringing high quality effort, products and service with a great attitude! AND, that's on top of having a regular job, wife and kids!!!

My points are:
In a world of "You R Replaceable"

• Do what you do the best you can.
• Good things will cost good money.
• We as society "have" to re-learn to appreciate and compensate above average efforts.

I'm glad I had the chance to sit around the fire with you and look forward to mount that bumper on the back of my 100!

Cheers

I'm excited to see what you come up with Ben. As a person who designed in CAD and fabricated front and rear bumpers for my 80 series, I can personally say that the rear bumper design took a LOT more work in the R&D part. I didn't use any swing outs in my design but I did use about 50% more material for the rear then what I used on the front bumper. It was all of the structural concerns I had to deal with. I wanted to make sure my rear bumper could handle a load/pull from my universal mounted winch in the rear receiver. It had to handle a straight rear pull and even an off angle pull. I also needed to make sure it could handle a 5500lb trailer with zero issues. The front bumper doesn't take nearly the abuse the rear bumper takes due to how far back off the wheels the bumper hangs. The bumper has to have significant improvements in structural integrity for towing/pulls and rock abuse on the trail. That increase in strength translates into increased time in R&D, material, and fabrication. Non of that has to do with the added cost of swingouts. I applaud Ben for all his work. After I designed my bumpers, I did the math on how much it cost me to design, build, and install them and realized if I charged a competitive price on them I would be making a few dollars per hour for my time. After taxes I would just about break even. I just could not make a dime doing it. The guys that figure out how to do it and make a profit get a thumbs up from me. I couldn't do it. Ben's front bumper was shockingly well designed and thought out and I was very impressed that I got such a good price on it for what I got. Keep it up.

Thanks Brad!

Tell me about it! I spent all day on cad for the first time, starting to get the hang of it but I am not much of a computer person.

Here is a rough sketch and some of the cad work I did today on the swingouts.
