And don't let us (the suggestions to add beef here, reinforce there, thicken that...) turn it into a 175 pound 'roo basher. I drive a 100 series Land Cruiser - not a rock buggy.

There are several reasons for the wings to stick out like they do, (about 2") I built this bumper right before a trail run I did back in August. There was one tight spot where if the bumper was not where it was my fender would have been trashed. Also I wanted the grill guard to rap around like it does. I do also plan on adding a tube around the front fenders so it sets me up well for that. I will certainly see if I have room to tuck it tighter and still get the protection I feel is needed. As for the shackle mounts, I'm not sure if you can tell from the pics but there is 1/4 wall dom sleeve welded through and then the strap that raps the grill guard is rapped around the sleeve. That being said I will have to change the design to accommodate the bumper with or without the grill guard. My bumper was designed around the grill guard. I'm planing on using 3/8 for the main bracket coming off the frame and that will go through the front for the shackle mounts.
Also if you have a welder maybe the DIY kit would be a good option for you. Then, like you said you can make the wings as tight as you want. This bumper has 3 pieces to the wings on each side. I think the only one you would have to change is the very end oneGot it.
The wing end - hence why it's a good idea to get it raw steel - I could change it to my liking!
I didn't mean the hoops needed to be tighter, I think they are great already.
I could not see the plate you mentioned, sorry. But the idea of redesigning it with the beefier D mount is a good one. I like your last sentence a lot!
I was actually thinking of changing the winch access holes a bit. I am by no means an artist but I think you can get the idea. I was thinking something like thisDo you think it's possible to kill some of the monotony in the front? The ARB has a "slot" mid bumper. Something like that would be nice. Also, how about some integrated fog lights? I'm thinking the 6 pod flat led panels would be a good addition to the bumper.
I was in the market for a Slee since I busted my ARB. I really like the look of the ARB but I dislike how it mounts with the winch cradle and can tilt. It's not preferable to me.
The Slee doesn't have the large expedition look so if there's other options out there I'm open ears and will hold off my purchase.
These bumper options on the market really make everything hard to choose!
I like the look of what you've come up with a lot more than the 4x4 labs offering. For now I'm starting with the front. I don't know if I will offer a rear because of how similar mine is to 4x4 labs. Luke already sells an awesome DIY rear bumper! Let me know if you would be interested in just a front
I'm not saying no just not at this time. I just don't have the time right now. But if you interested in a front let me know. Also where are you located? If your near me I could possibly build a custom one for you.I like the look of what you've come up with a lot more than the 4x4 labs offering.
Sounds good. I have always found it safer to Hi-lift from the sliders anyway. I think you guys will be surprised on how stout this bumper is. I think the 10ga is a perfect compromise between strength and weight. It all about placement of bends and gussets.Im in for a DYI kit front(without the push bar) & rear(without swing outs)
Keep the weight down makes me happy.i loved my similarly designed TJM, sleek, and very light weight. There was no way you could Hi-Lift anywhere but center without bending the bumper. If its any stronger then the factory Im happy.
