You can see the bend i put into the swing arm right off of the hinge to allow the rear quarter panel tubing to connect to the bumper behind the tire carrier.

This arrier is very stable with all this weight on it, much more than the previous one i built. I owe alot of that to the locking handle.

Looking great Martin. Did you buy a bender? I need to build a cooler rack similar to that to replace the "shelf" on my swingout that was supposed to house a removable cooler rack.

That's one super sexy sticker on the rear amby glass too! Can't wait to go for a ride in this bad boy. See you Saturday!!

Update!
I'm very close to being satisfied enough to attend a few wheeling events in the near future if work allows....

first up....battery: I have always had the battery in the rear behind my drivers seat. I never bolted it down because i was wanting to build a small tool box around it but couldn't come up with anything i was willing to build at this point. The battery i had was a massive truck battery with 1,100+ CCA that i did not want to squeeze under the hood, it was ugly too. I decided to upgrade to dual Odyssey 925s and a dual isolated battery kit from 12VoltGuy. Really neat and clean kit! Dont knock my wiring as i still have to remove the top battery hold downs and make some adjustments and reduce some weight on them too. I never took a picture of the dual battery box i built but i will when i take the batteries out next time im at the shop for the weekend. These batteries have plenty of starting power and my 4bt only requires one 12v source for my fuel solenoid while running. The 12VoltGuy kit allows me to switch from the house battery to both batteries and allows both to charge. My winch and other accessories are wired to my aux battery. I will show more photos of this when i finish my center console in the cab.

Sweet build, just read the whole thing...I worked with a bunch of Engineer types from NCS before I retired @ FRC East, Cherry Point..just wondered if you were headed there..Lee

Great to see that thing on the road. Sounds great!

What sort of EGTs/Boost are you seeing out of this?
Stock injectors? I see you are running the 3200rpm spring. Everything else stock?

all that i can say is that thing is freaking awesome man great job.

Nice.. but you know that already.

How about the volume- inside with the hard top on and w/o the hard top?

hard to tell really. Its loud if your outside the truck with or without the top on but you can carry a normal conversation inside the cab with or without the top. However, i think its quiter with the top off......top acts somewhat like a tin-can. that being said, ive got some areas to close up on the firewall and floorboard that will help!

Great to see that thing on the trail. Well done!

why so much wheel hop?!

I have a couple of thoughts on this. First off, you have built an awesome machine here, I love that it has been a family effort, nice work.

While watching your first videos, I thought your tire pressure looked high, watching this one, I still think so. I run my BFG Muds around 15 to 20psi in the rocks and have not lost a bead on stock rims yet... I run way lower in sand/beach

It also looks like your front end flexes more than the rear, which leads me to believe your shocks may be "over sprung" in the rear. Or said differently, the compression/rebound valving in shock can not control the amount of spring you have back there.

Stiffer shocks could solve some of this, removing a leaf or two could help, but would reduce load capacity.... could try dual shocks, but that would not be right on this sweet resto rig.

Just some thoughts, YMMV

Cheers,

out with the old in with the new......(or out with the new in with the newer).
Ive decided to go auto in my 40.
I have decided to use a 700r4 with my dana300. Im still trying to research the cheapest way to get there but a fello cruiser member will be supplying the chevy adapter plate and starter in lieu of my dodge adapter and bellhousing and clutch and maybe NV4500......???

anyway, inspired by woody's and Isotel's build i am in the parts collection stage right now....
