26 miles in the weeds and dirt. And TBH, I'm glad someone put up that warning barrel. I was hauling the asses and might not have seen the new ravine until it was too late
Little shakedown ride before heading out for the next adventure. Off to do 650 miles of logging roads on Vancouver Island

I'm doing a Vancouver Island trip with my kids and bunch of their friends. Probably doing about ~300-miles. We start at Port Angeles and ferry-ride to Gordon Bay on the 22nd then ride/camp that week. Maybe I should a shakedown ride?

Ahaha no way! Well be wrapping up around then. Doing the Tree to Sea loop around the northern half of the island for two weeks. The ferry from Port Angeles seems pretty cool, I lived in the San Juan Islands for a summer and absolutely love the areaYou must be stalking me

I got a late start yesterday after work and knew I'd only get ten miles or so. And then I got distracted for too long by this beauty and a chat with its owner, fresh back from the Rubicon:
So then I did some trails, finished up with the dirt and was hauling ass back home to beat the darkness when I crashed. Hard. On the fücking sidewalk!!! Those marks in the center left were from pushing the Maxxis Ikon treads when the front wheel was perpendicular to the path of travel, which you can do when the bars touch a trash can and a bridge rail at about 22mph. But the little knobbies are good at traction and brought everything to a stop in very, very short order. The shoulder dislocation reduced itself, but I think I did some solid rotator cuff work :-/

My direct flight got cancelled, 40 hours later with a few minutes of broken sleep I finally made it to Whistler but only had enough energy for a beer with the boys before discovering jet lag.
My mate sells ESI grips, I ordered a few new sets for the trip. Funny guy... at least it's easy to spot the bike.

Wrapped up 13 days and almost 700 miles and +46,000' of logging roads around the northern half of Vancouver Island. Amazing roads, lots of great camping spots, and fresh sea air. Got pretty lucky with the weather and really only had one day of heavy rain and a couple hours of light drizzle here and there.
Just finished our bikepack trip of the Vancouver Island starting from Victoria. We had a group of 10 - my kids and a bunch of their college friends. Did about 275-miles and +16,000-feet elevation over 6-days (really 5, day 6 was an easy 20 back to Victoria for the ferry ride). Bucket list trip.

Heli drop riding is insane. Mt Cartier, Revelstoke.

how was the mt cartier ride? you’ve got me seriously interested! i love riding around revelstoke (fly fishing is excellent too). i’m not a downhiller per se but do some enduro style riding. i’m not a big drops/air guy but assume this is more technical single track with switchbacks etc? i see videos showing off camber roots and rocks but didn’t look crazy technical. was that your experience?

Not a dh trail at all. It's a hiking trail, nothing built up for bikes at all, but that's what made it so fun. Tight switchbacks at the top, lots of really good single track, then the lower portion gets real fun and a dh bike suddenly feels like a good choice after being overkill for the first hour. Lots of rough steps, but overall I'd say a tech blue trail that goes for a long time. Nothing you'd need to get off and walk, other than a few trees down here and there. Good brakes are a must, they were toasty by the bottom. Totally worth it if you can fill the heli and keep the costs down. Ignore anything you read online about the bridge being out of action, it's perfectly fine.
