hehe i hear you and understand your reservation about restoring it.
I like the patina as well.
However if i left it in its current state in oregon it would be a rust heap in 5 years.

The only way to preserve it is to restore it unfortunately :)

I was hoping to have the whole wiring harness out today, but the damn indicator consul would not come out because the speedo cable is too short to be able to access it to remove it. I tried to access the speedo cable at the other terminus, but the parking brake connector is right next to it, and i could not see how it fastened. I guess my options are to remove the petrol tank then remove the center metal hump and disconnect the speedo from the source, or cut the speedo cable and fit a proper length cable later that would allow me to remove the indicator/display consul with out difficulty.

Troublesome indicator/display consul.

Need to figure out a way to best blast and paint these...
Probably should just pull the wiring and rewire :D

Speedo cable

I removed this part from under the dash and it allowed me just enough room to grab the speedo cable and remove it so that the instrument cluster would fall out.

Nice :)

So remove the steering support and It should allow some room?
I think I may want to remove the steering wheel first... need to pick up a steering wheel puller tomorrow :D

Thanks man :D

The ends of you speedo unscrew at both ends. Can you get a pliers on it. I've had to start to unloosen them with pliers before and then was able to undo by hand. Lay some thing soft on the floor and lay on your back. Using a flashlight it should be easy to figure out how it unscrews.

I will bring in the flash light tomorrow and get it sorted.

Excited to get the wiring harness out.

Then all I need to do it the rest of the tub list:

- uninstall petrol tank and parts.
- remove emergency brake, throttle assembly, clutch and brake assembly
- remove tailgate stuff
- remove windscreen ( bolts seem to be not coming loose ) :frown:
- remove tub!

A question looking forward... :D

When i remove the brake and clutch master cylinders from the fire wall ( as well as the pedals inside )
will I have to disconnect the brake lines? Or can every thing still remain a closed unit and be fine ?

( it appears to be this way, but i like to know before i start something ) :D

thanks :D

If you can hold the master cylinders in place by attaching them to something in about the same location you should be okay. There is clip that holds the master cylinders together. Just pulling the rod out wouldn't let it come apart.

You planning to paint the frame at all?

I will probably clean up the frame a bit when the tub is off.
Not a lot of rust on the frame :D

Probably degrease, rust neutralize and paint the bits that need it.
Then maybe spray that light grease stuff I have been reading about on it.

No real need to blast and repaint the frame, it looks great :)

have the electrical harness out :D

Thanks for the tips on getting it out!

( trying the embed image instead of flickr, but posting to my flickr account as well )

Sorry Destin, that heater is too new for your cruiser, that heater requires duct work to the firewall, a hole in the firewall, and a blower motor on the engine side of the firewall. I have only seen the aftermarket square box heaters on early FJ40's. John Pardi
