I switch it off when ever my trucks are parked (good against surface leakage when parked for a while - no empty battery) & it`s a theft protection too.
Involves all wiring .
Mounted on the dash (the RED) near steering (right side) and on the little edge of the dash right to the steering wheel ( BJ43 *)
Cheers
Peter
* BJ43 part is for 24 V

...drove the RED today and made a pic....

nice :D

Might want one of those for the hickley sidewinder winch as well.
Or at least wire it differently...

The PO had the hot wire going directly to the battery...
There is a key switch for back and forward and "off"...
But i want to be sure before i intro duce a new variable to the system :D

How do you guys wire your electric winches?

Mine looks to have a hot wire ( PO had direct to battery ) and ground and possibly a bib aux wire on the leather bit on the fender?>

Want to connect it soon, I should jus snap some photos :)
Might want to rewire the switch too, as it look kinda janky and has no key :)

No clue if this is the proper way to do it or not but it seems to work!?!?
I have my winch wired straight to the battery through the cutoff switch I showed up a few posts. Supposed to be good for higher amps than most cut-offs I found. So figured I'd try it with the winch...pulled some shrubs with it, but I have not put it on a full pull that would bog the winch motor down to see if the cutoff starts melting hahah.

The fancy battery clamps are from napa...military clamps or something they call them...very nice you can hook lots to them if you want/have to. The big black wires go to the winch. Got them from a welding shop (Norco) they had a big box of scrap wire peices for cheap. Think this would work for a cheap crimper...I had some dies that I could use in a vise laying around... http://www.harborfreight.com/hydraulic-wire-crimping-tool-66150.html

Getting chilly around here. Better get a top on her soon.

You gonna drive her when the weather turns? I am looking forward to meeting up with you in a couple months, (when I finish my 76)
maybe get Shanes ass out, and tool around in our 40's... Maybe grab a bite...

Great build.

yeap top on soon, but it has been so sunny I am having a hard time putting the top on :)

I have a few more things to do to get it ready for winter driving ;)

Hook up the defrost vents and tap out a broken bolt on the member between the bows and the windscreen etc.

Bunch of little s*** to do :)

Yeah when yours is together hit me up, be good to hang with Shane too, been a while :)

Nice pics as usual...also nice to see the 40 out and about

Did you ever further track down what the wireing issue was? Seems odd that the high beam switch could have stopped the rig from starting..even more concerning is that if it was, why didn't the fuse blow?? The 40 starting is one thing...the 40 catching fire, and possibly burning down a garage it was being stored in would be far, far worse. I would at least make sure you manually disconnect that battery when it is parked until you put such a switch on it.

That sure is a sweet 40...congrats once again

PS...do not wait too long to get the top on. You'll need some warm sun rays to let it relax while you put it on (working it cold is a little harder). Did you do any weather proofing treatment to it yet?

yeah i dunno, i think a wire was disconnected and causing the system to ground.
I did replace the fuses, so maybe there where some blown.
Hard to say :D

I prolly instal the kill switch on the battery ion the mean time like ya guys suggested :)

yeap top has been water treated :D

You do not need the top, just a good coat and some ear muffs.

lol coming from a fla guy ;)

that was me for a long time til one day I left for work in late oct or nov it was a nice day. When I went to leave at 7 it was pouring rain sideways and 38*. That was a rough drive home with only a bikini top :D I needed wipers on the inside
