Hi
So I am designing a couple of rear recovery points for my HZJ75.
I am planning to cut a piece of 15mm stell with a oval hole for the shackle but there will still be 20mm of material around the hole.
the cut plate will be mounted with 2 8mm bolts through the frame + 2 bolts to the bracket for the rear bumper.
There will be one for each side.

What do you think? Strong enough?

i might also weld on a flat 8mm plate for an extra bolt in the underside of the frame.

15mm plate sounds plenty stout. I think you're going to be limited in strength by how you attach it.

Can you extend your bracket forward to that square hole? you could use a larger bolt, like 12 or 14mm and put a thick plate inside the frame to sandwich the frame with the thick bolt.

Something like this-

Mmmh there might be something about it. You are not the only one suggesting to extent the bracket.
I guess I will go back to the drawing board and make a few changes.

I'm thinking that if the pull is in line with the plate you're in good shape. The issue is going to be if you're out of plane - off to one side or the other. Even at 15mm you're going to be able to bend that plate pretty easily.
