Jim I finally figured what was the right application of CS-130

This is not it. My first failed attempt.

Ended up going back and explaining the tensioner tab was not in the correct location. The correct one is from a 90-92 Eagle Premier or Dodge Montaco.

Just to be clear, this alternator is a direct swap for the FJ60 factory part? No pulley, or fan swap needed, just harness adapter?

It will usually come with a multi-rib pulley, or a skinny car v-belt pulley. Not the wide 17mm HD truck pulley.

So it will be necessary to swap the pulley, but AFAIK that does not require any special tools.

I used the same " 2 ear" alt on my 40.I wanted to keep the stock alt as a spare so I used the same pulley that is pictured in the 1st post. It worked very well and is smaller in diameter. Some info here:

Wow..Old thread.

If anyone is interested, you can also try searching CS130 7973 for the "2 ear" model. Last year, I picked up a re-manf on EBAY for ~$50.

I ordered an alternator from RockAuto for the 90-92 Eagle Premier/ Dodge Montaco as suggested....doesn't fit.

- The bottom two tabs for the long bolt are too far (would be simple to shim).
- The upper "ear" for the top mount/adjuster is too short and won't clear. Bigger issue to correct.
- The shaft for the pulley is much larger eliminating the possibility of swapping pulleys.

With the combination of the three issues....too big of a hassle. I'm hoping to find something that bolts right in as others have indicated.

I'm not sure if RockAuto sent me the wrong alternator or if the alternators varied on FJ40s and I need something else. The part # I was sent GM# 19298374 ACDelco #335-1222. I have a 12/78 build USA FJ40.

Anybody have actual AC/Delco or GM part #s? (I've also discovered...there are multiple styles of "CS-130" GM alternators so that isn't enough info go off of.)

Thanks,

Dave

It looks roughly like that - hard to tell without dimensions. I was under the impression the 144 required mods and the 130 did not.

For those of you that are interested..... the cs130 makes for a better and cleaner conversion..... no brackets to fab..... just bolt-on... and uses the Toyota pulley..... you can also see in the pics the correct wiring configuration.....

Grant, this is ages old but am planning this swap to my 60 using the 90/92 Eagle Premier/Dodge Montaco alt that @Trollhole linked... I am having trouble with your wiring pixs. They are each different... The first I can see what if attached to what, the second one specifically shows the wires from the harness, pinkish tan has white connections added 2 or even 3 then not sure where they connect to below? Then the third pix shows the pinkish tan wire attached to the spade like you mentioned and going straight into the toyota harness without those white connections? Correct me if I am wrong but are those two different vehicles and two different alts? Would someone also be willing to add pixs of their charge light and its wiring to the fuse?

I'll add on this thread I've done the swap from stock to a cs130. I did have to modify my bracket and the tensioner but it wasn't all that hard to do. I had a friend help me w/ this who soldered in a resister inline to the Chevy pigtail as well. .5 watt 470 ohm. It was what GM said to use.

This is a great thread. Grant actually showed me this upgrade years ago when My oldest sons 60 was my DD. Then he put the 12HT in and the alt sat on the shelf. My youngest sons alternator went out on his 60 so I️ used this thread to figure out how I was supposed to wire it up. Seems to be working good so far.
