I am going to find a way to add a capacitor to the dimmer circuit to reduce the voltage spikes when starting the car. Short term solution is to turn off the headlights when starting the car.

What about a simple Voltage regulator like this ?

7812 +12V Voltage Regulator TO-220

That part may not handle the load - but something similar may work.

Any idea how much current is running through the dash lighting circuit ?

Autolumination keeps cost reducing and the new lights are not protected against polarity. I have seen three different versions now and the newest has some sort of load coil on the back. Red is positive and the side closest to the switch is the positive side of the dome light. If you put them in backwards, they will burn up.

Ah ha! No wonder mine worked, then didn't. I just ordered another. I'll make sure I put in correctly. Thanks.

Just did the domes, map, and doors straight from Superbright LEDs and Auto illumination. Was crazy simple and easy. Amazing how much brighter it is. Maybe the warmer white would be more pleasing, but it's so much better than stock I'm not complaining. You can see through the windows how the orange lights around campus here at night aren't nearly as bright. No flash was used but I do have a dSLR camera which helps. And my wife really did need the sunglasses with that dome light in her face.

Okay, my 36 led in the rear dome died after one day. I emailed autolumination per their instructions. I was given a return authorization number. Then I ordered the 48 SMTs to replace it because I'm so impressed by the blinding light from my map light in the front. Maybe a $25 dome light is crazy? My thought is that as long as you don't look directly at them, the 48 SMTs are great. When you need light, you can't get enough. Not only don't I have to worry about a door ajar killing my battery, I don't have to worry about it happening at night anymore at all!

Here are some more pics with the new rear light. The first pic is just the new rear dome. I hope it lasts longer than 24 hours. Now I think the door lights really don't matter with all the light you get from the overhead leds. The second and third pics have all three overhead lights on. My camera adjusts the exposure automatically, but if this much light wasn't there, it couldn't take these pics.

My opinion is the bang for the buck is in the two overhead lights. the 48 SMTs in those two lights are probably worth $50 for the light and the security. I'd just pull the door lights at this point and save the money. The map light is nice too, depending on how often you use it. I would probably go smaller in there, just because 48 SMTs in your face is a lot.

Thanks again for the great tips and info on how to improve the interior lighting!

As much as I loved the improvement over stock, the Bright White was just to "off" bluish for me. I just sold them on 'Mud and ordered the Warm Whites, 48 SMT x 3, plus the little visor bulbs in Super White. I kinda think spending 100 bucks on these lights is crazy, but it is nearly a night and day difference which is really really nice when you're trying to do something inside the vehicle and it's pitch black outside.

Cluster

Just quick asking....where those lights goes? I take out cluster today and looking at it....and kind confuse to get idea where type 74 white goes for 18.

These are the little guys that light up the seat belt warning, parking brake, check engine, etc.

The listing is based on the stock replacements. If they were white from the factory, I listed it as white. If you are going LED, use red for red and green for green otherwise the colors are a little muted. The only lights I can't use LED in are the out of gas light and the airbag light.

I ordered 10 red one for bottom of it along with 18 white, I guess I ordered little too much but that's ok, I keep them as spare.

what is the best way to see polarity on cluster? I see some of are saying positive and ground but some are saying nothing. Only way to check is connect to truck and use tester to see which way to positive and negative?

I'm trying to solder some newer green lights into a set I got from a 91. What is the best way to get the circuits out without snapping the board. They seem to be well attached to those black posts and am not sure the best technique to remove them.

I haven't found that perfect solution yet but my thoughts are to have something that looks stock.

The extra courtesy lights added to the front doors lights the foot well but I may add another under the dash. For now, I open the door a bit if I drop something and it illuminates the area pretty well.

Found a new fun mod looking at a '94. Apparently the '95 was cost reduced because all the circuitry is there but it is missing the LEDs. I swapped the bits from both and soldered in some blue LEDs. :grinpimp:

you can easy open by flat screw driver from front part first, rear has plastic crew so don't lift it up.
mine has only one LED and none of other bottom.

after swap everything and test it out, cluster works funny I think bad voltage something, lights up airbag light dim, AT/P on, and "P" stays all the time but not on N of transfer case. So I swap back to shift indicators, some lights on bottom and works perfect now.

And some Type B light I order sticks out too much and couldn't use on heater and some other switch, so I take 3mm LED bend it to make fit and attach resister for 12V.

I have everything off and taken apart, I just need to figure out how to remove the 3 seperate boards that are attached under the buttons.

Can you please post a pic with the warm whites ? I really like this mod. Thanks !

I used the tip of the soldering iron to melt the black plastic while gently prying up the board. The ABS will melt and the board itself usually shapes it so that the board will go back on. Once the board is soldered and put back in, you can gently melt the plastic again to secure the board in place. It won't take much and you can always use another source of ABS in case you need to add any more.

sorry misunderstand... like treerootCO says melt "black dot", I just cut it off to separate and add little more to keep in position.

I tested last night to see how good it is, very clear and bright and easy to see since many stock bulbs was burn out and so dim to see, I don't have to turn on map light to see where lights are.
Thanks treerootCO for nice idea.

this is sweet if anybody around jackson ms is intrestead in doing these in mine call me or text me at 6015404401 i will pay good

48 LED's x 4 Panels = Bright!

Finally took some shots of the four 48 LED panels that I purchased from LJ_24. Since I have three overhead panels, plus we fit the 48 into my map light and each of the courtesy lights in the door, the truck lights the whole garage from the interior. Essentially, my camera had more problems dealing with it being too bright instead of too dark. Love having LED's in the rig, as I can now see things on the floor at night.

 and wear sunglasses.
