Hi guys! I’m new here (-:

I just got my dream truck! It’s a 1984 Land Cruiser!!!

Engine is a stock 2F carbureted with a frozen smog pulley. I’ve always owned old-ish cars and I’m comfortable doing maintenance and replacing parts etc on fuel injection motors, but I’m just not familiar with the vacuum system on this thing. I ordered the Man-A-Fre smog delete kit, but what I’d really love is if there’s someone local who has done it recently and would be willing to do it with me. I can provide food, beverages, and a couple hundred bucks if someone can dig into it with me who is confident we can get all the vacuum hoses hooked back up correctly when we’re done. I have wrenches. But no garage, so we’d be working outdoors. I’m in NE Minneapolis on the edge of Columbia Heights.

Is this something that someone on here would be able to help with?

Other option is I’ve heard there’s a guy on this forum who works on Land Cruisers in Forest Lake MN, so maybe the move is to just install the pulley and limp it to his shop, if anyone has that guy’s contact info I would love to get ahold of him to see if this is something he does. I read a post about him starting his shop but couldn’t find the post again 😑

Thanks for any advice! I can’t wait to start driving this beauty 😁

The guy you're looking for is South of the cities; I don't know if he is taking any new customers. I do have a de-smogged 2F on my Fj45, can send some pics if that will help, mines an 88. There is a local group out of the cities and some of us in Wisconsin that do the occasional breakfast run. Hit up my cell, 715.410.0614 happy to assist in any way I can. Great looking 60. You're going to have lots of fun in that one. @Hogan lives in Forest Lake and may know someone.

Probably not just the pulley. A de-smog is a fine idea, maybe do some reading first...

Should get you started.
And, welcome, :flipoff2:

Thanks! Yeah I’ll definitely bug you for pics if I’m getting stuck on what goes where during re-assembly. I found a pretty through write up of the process, and I think at this point I should probably just pick a day and see how far I can get.

Thanks, Pighead (-: a little reading is right! There’s 60 pages on that thread!! Digging into trying to understand the vacuum system a little better before I start ripping parts off

So are you receiving the 60 with a seized air pump? Or it locked up since you bought it? Which leads me to - have you even driven it yet? There is a work around where you run a belt in the forward waterpump pulley and the alternator, omitting P/S and the air pump but you could drive it.

The nice thing about de-smogging is that it's a lot easier than re-smogging. You may have one or two semi-useful features hiding somewhere in that spaghetti monster, probably not. I may have gone a little far with my de-smog, leaving only a vac line to the brake booster and one to the dizzy. And the line from the PCV. I just love the look of a bare-naked 2F and the elbow room under the hood.

Thats the spirit. Great resources here on Mud and in the metro. Will keep one eye open for that 60 around town. If you get over New Richmond way shoot me a message.

OK! Well I'm all the way through pulling parts off, and just getting started with putting parts back on. I'll be at it all day tomorrow. Fingers crossed I get to drive it by the end of the day (-:

It’s back together! Now I seem to have a fuel pump issue. If I manually fill the fuel filter with gas it’ll run until the filter is dry. Then it quits. Runs really nice though for about a minute (-: I replaced the mechanical fuel pump, and noticed that the spacer was cracked. Could a cracked spacer affect how it pumps? Or do I have a clogged line from the gas tank to the filter?

is there gas in the tank?
you should be able to blow back thru the line to the tank and hear bubbles

I'll try the bubble trick in the morning. I did drain the gas tank prior to the smog delete and added fresh gas from a jerry can, but only a couple gallons. Should that be plenty?

Turns out there wasn’t enough gas in the tank hahaha, stupid, but boy do I love an easy fix. Now that it runs and drives I’ve come up with three new issues.
1) it dies if I put the choke all the way in. But runs great if I leave it choked a little.
2) the only brake that works is the front right, tried to bleed the brake lines with a vacuum bleeder and just was sucking tons of air from the rear brakes.
3) car beeps (quite interior reminder beeping) anytime the door is open whether or not the keys are in the ignition (the headlights are off).

Often a sign of the fuel cut-off solenoid not getting power or otherwise malfunctioning.

Okay, so I’ve tried pulling the line that goes to the fuel cut solenoid, leaving hose open
To atmosphere. That didn’t help. Then I tried blocking the hose. That also didn’t work. Either way it still wants to die when the choke is in

the fuel cut solenoid is in the carb, no hose, it is an electrical connection. the 2 wire green connection 1 power and 1 ground.
it needs 12v + and you should hear a click.
