I've got the 1991 DLX truck which has the chrome trim around the windshield. Unfortunately, it's damaged on the upper, which will soon let in water and start causing things to rust.

One way or the other it'll get replaced, but Toyota North America only carries the chrome trim, and the black trim, which is really the same thing as chrome, but painted black.

Anyone know if there's a simple rubber option to replace those trim pieces? Rust prone metal trim tickes me off! Searching Yotatech I see an option for the 2nd gen trucks from the foreign markets, so I'm hoping there's something out there for the 89-95 trucks....

Looks like 56121 may be what you're looking for...

I'm pretty sure thats just the rubber gasket that keeps the windshield sealed.

I can't quite tell exactly what I'm looking for. I don't know if it's the "dam" or the "weatherstrip" that I want...

Looking at "general market" vehicles, I see 56121‑89117 and 56121‑89118 as options, but for ARL market (Australian) in '92 I see 56121‑89120. I notice that this one looks a lot cheaper than the others too (about $30 less)....

The questions abound, I wish I could get the EPC to work on this computer, because this would be way easier with pictures...

The only parts I got listed are the same as above in Jerod's pic. Black or Chrome trim that inserts.

You could conceivably talk with a good glass shop and use the 1982-1995 Chevrolet S-10 Trim piece as that just inserts and rests into the curing glue. First find someone with one and measure their windshields dimensions to see if it'll work as far as shape and angles without too much if any modifying?

For that matter the same might apply for another manufacturers trim piece (Dodge Caravan, etc). They all glue in like ours do but like I said above they then run an extra bead of glue and put the trim piece into the glue to cure.

If you do find a factory or aftermarket piece specifically for this I want it turned into a FAQ writeup as I hate the thing for the same reason as you.

Well, I'm hoping to chat with a glass shop later today then....

A tube of "Glass & Mirror Adhesive" from Lowes is much cheaper (and is the same thing the glass shop uses). is easy to smooth out & will look great......I've done this before

I've seen one non-factory rubber replacement in the 30+ toyota's and 10+ 2nd gens that I've owned. It looked like shiat. The body style was simply not designed to work w/o the larger plastic trim pieces. There's too much gap between the glass and the sheetmetal to fill w/ rubber/filler/etc and look 1/2 decent.

When I built my white xcab, I picked up some chrome replacement pieces, prepped them, primed them and painted black.

i would use gorilla tape. its black

Only if you ran out of bailing wire and spray paint first though, right? I forgot, it's Sunday and you're off work and bored? :flipoff2:

Well Dan, what's the decision and where's the pics man?

The pics would be of the bits of Gorilla tape holding the bent up chrome trim piece so it doesn't flop all over. Wristy: I see your hillbilly and raise you a half-ass. :hillbilly:

I'm hoping to take it to a good glass shop sometime in the next two days to talk to them about it. I had to make a somewhat unscheduled trip to drive the wife's '85 4-runner from California back to Colorado in between work, so I got a bit distracted. I really, really missed my diesel on the trip though. I'm used to looking for rest stops for potty breaks, using gas station bathrooms ticks me off!!! :flipoff2:

Got it, I thought you were actually starting on in.

There's always..

this?

It's all that powah from the diesel making the parts peel off from torque speed? :flipoff2:
