I’m Americanizing my restored 1976 FJ40 and considering adding a dash pad. Because my truck never had the dash pad, I need to first install both the panel and the retainer 55381-60010. If anyone has done this, is it possible to just rivet the retainer onto dash vs. welding it?

when you say dash pad retainer, are you talking about the retainer that is screwed to the back of the dash pad, or the one that is spot welded to the cowl (like that shown in the picture)?

if the latter, how did you attach to the Aqualu cowl? rivets? screws? do you have a pic?

I still have the old cowl, so I could take that piece off.

To install the retainer (yes the red part pictured) you can rivit ... nut and bolt ... you decide

Following up on this post 9 years later. Not sure this has been done in the FJ world but I am adding an OEM dash to an Aqualu tub before I paint it a new color. Panel bonding the steel to aluminum. This FJ40 is so far from original a little more cutting wont matter, plus I will get to run original-looking dash pads.
