I know, but **** me those old 60 springs were rusty. Was enough to make a dude emotional
I'm dreading wire wheeling the awful ****ing things...but they'll go in the front. Basically I'm avoiding chopping up the parts 60.
And , as your attorney, I advise you to come drink some witch piss. Drag the big Frenchman down from the mountain hideout while you're at it. He probably needs to air out.

Hopefully that's all in the right spot, because it ain't moving now.
Now I can finally walk past it without snagging my nuts on a clamp, and move it out from under the hoist so I can clean up in here.
Ass end is sortof suspended. One of the infamous BG shackles on one side and a ubolt stuffed in on the other. Proper length is somewhere in between I think. I won't do much more than tack those shackle hangers on until there's some actual weight back here.
Cool thing about narrower springs is if I shim them to the centre they'll line up with the spring pads. May just redrill these pads, see how it works, and use the perches I made for a ubolt flip.
Springs feel soft, but we'll see. Couldn't even begin to guess what the box will weigh on this.

The drill press abuse continues. Although the 90 year old machine took it like a champ. Amazing the difference an extra 100lbs and half the rpm makes.

Yeah. Too easy to make. Took maybe a half hour to drill the holes once the old bandsaw finally gnawed it's way through.
I might try a wrecker on Tuesday for the chev plates for the top. I saw them at hub city springs all shiny and new but too $$ for what they are. Just a really quick and easy way to do the flip with them, for the rear anyways .

And 20 bucks at the wrecker and some ubolts and i have flippatude.
Not torqued in case I decide to flip these springs for another few inches of wheelbase.

It's a gm part. Pretty much every full-size half ton since 1988. Really common. Think these came off a Tahoe.
Axle tube dia is perfect, depending on the ubolts you get you might have to ream the holes a bit narrower or further apart.
Dropped right on for me.

Today started with a fairly awesome hangover....fortunately Brett visited at about 830 and dropped off a case of beer otherwise I probably wouldn't have accomplished much...
Anyways, I started by turning the cart sideways, it was getting in the way.
Once I could properly test fit the rear driveshaft, it was actually a smidge too long, so I flipped the springs. It's now a bit short but I can deal with that later .
Shock mount tube is in right place now which is a bonus .
And now to instantly make it look like I've done ****all I lifted the body off to do some welding underneath it.
Probably build an exhaust and deal with crossmember mounts at the same time.

Looks like it's coming along great! And that frame looks surprisingly nice too!

Its never been closer. ...
yeah frame is so clean it's downright weird.Wheelbase is about 110, but I'm probably going to cheat the front forward another inch or so. Everything is at full droop now too, but my guess is 112. Ish...
I need some more 5/8 plate to make flip plates for the front, next week I'll get something , then I'll be able to jack it up onto its feet for once.

Made some plates to weld in for the crossmember mounts. Tried a cool trick I saw online, a magnetic base for a dial gauge for keeping s*** from moving on a drill press.
Works awesome. Makes me ponder a couple door maglocks as a base for a table..
I figger this should get the ghetto coefficient of this operation up to where Graham is more comfortable with it.

I did some stuff this week.
I mostly assembled my rear end with it's gold dipped bearings, that lump in there is a coarse spline 4.11, I think I'll throw it in the front, and put my LSD in that end for now, not that it actually does anything.
I figger I'll save the new brake parts for the front. Because of wheel stud length you need a wheel spacer with this disc brake method , so those are a couple I carved out of some old rotors last summer.
And while the tubs up in the air, I finished off some welding underneath, folded the rear corners up and bolted on the side steps.
Got this s*** from the crustaceous one something like 10 freakin years ago, this is the first time I've actually used it.
Seemed appropriate.
And finally, built the first half of the exhaust. Sucks far less doing it from above. I wanted to at least get it past the cab, but I haven't fully sorted out a fuel tank yet, so I'll wait for that.
I figger I'll probably be naturally exasperated for a while during the parts gathering for phase 2...
Plus, I think I need to sit behind an N/A 3b again to fully appreciate the turboner...it's been a while.
I've been spoiled by the JDM lump I currently sit behind.
I need to spend half a day just grinding on the frame, all the mounts and crap I've moved or just hacked off. Trying to think of other s*** I should do while the body is off. I know I'll need to rebuild that tcase sooner than later, but I don't think that'll be that much easier from above. I have some fancy multi step toyota undercoat s*** Mr Burnz gave me, but I don't know if I want to use that stuff or just hose it down with black paint and oil the s*** out of it.
I don't think I can avoid the front knuckles any longer. I need to get it up on it's feet and get the cart out of the way, and see how it sits.
I'm going to cheat and steal the knuckles off the blue 60, as they were recently redone. That's going to be a repugnant afternoon.
