Well im looking at the weather and dam it would be a good time to take the top off the bandeirante for the first time. I have some defrost ducts to cut out of the firewall to window frame.
Yeah mine was coming off whether or not I got that soft top. I hate the hard top on this truck. Makes it seem so claustrophobic after months of topless.

Hopefully I'll never put it back on.

Thinking to myself, I might have to take the headache rack off so the little old canvas lady has better access to the back of the st.

That's gonna be a treat :bang:🤣

We should have a convertible cruise in July!!

LOL, I've been told when I went in to take insurance off BJ74 to save a few bucks since I'm gone for 2 months that it
expired in Dec. So I've been sorta illegal with short trips to town. Damn, not having a sticker to remind me.

s*** the place I get insurance from calls texts and emails repeatedly when its a month away from expiring. They won't let me forget 🤣

It happens…

I once had one of my kids ask what the year and month on the plate meant (back when we still had stickers). The told me the year, and I said that can’t be… turns out it had expired more than six months before.

Playing around with the second bow, for a little more of an fst look...

Faux-S-T 🤣🤣

Think this will look better. Also cuts down the area of unsupported fabric up top.

Adjustable and easy to pull out if it doesn't.

Finally a use for reusable zip ties. 🙄

Not a lot more I can do until I start cutting fabric. Hopefully next week.

Just trying to get the s*** done that requires MY tools, because the tools at my parents place where the sailrite machine is, suck ass...and it's a 20 minute drive if I'm missing something (and I guarantee, there's something obvious that won't be there 😕)

Maybe a piece of inner tube under that cut half pipe might keep it from slipping? or moving/squeaking?
Just a thought.

This is just temporary until the sewing is done.

After that, if it's still better with the second bow I'll rivet those flanges down.
Or maybe weld in bits of tube to clean it up. Something more permanent anyway .

I'll have to butter her up on mother's day before I put her to work 🤣

FauxST is just about done. Hard to get a pic of it inside but it's pissing rain outside and I ain't going out there.

It's not too bad. For the price compared to an actual fst it should be good. I should maybe have put a 3rd strap on the side. Easy enough to add later.

Was pretty awkward using the sailrite machine, while it is industrial with a walking foot, it has a very small throat.
Really designed for sail repairs on a boat mid ocean, where space is a factor. I forgot I actually enjoyed canvas work. Was a fork in my road 25+ years ago where I almost went into sailmaking.

I might have to get myself a big old machine, make mockup cab and mount an fst frame to it, and build a more accurate fst. It'd be a fun project.

Next thing will be a bit of this action, but I have to wait for an order of sail needles to arrive.

I've not seen one of those before...

I recently picked up a sewing awl like this...

Instead of using it as originally designed, I used one of the sewing needles from my industrial machine. So much faster than trying to just hand stitch.

I used to have one of those. Lost it somewhere ages ago.

My thing is just called a sailmakers palm or sailor's palm. Something like that.

Basically an HD thimble.

Great for driving needles through a lot of layers.

Having hand stitched leather shoes while modifying them on too many occasions, I can see where it would come in handy.

Control arm moves to 3 distinct positions in a way that seems correct and goes to stop if I ground the oil pressure switch or remove the ignition contact.

Only thing I need to check is if it's drawing power when the key is off, but my meter has apparently blown it's fuse.

With some tidying up of the wires it'd be pretty easy to install this in the engine bay.

Chicks dig the dangly red ball tho, so it's a tough call.

Wow!

I probably need the key to shutdown the truck to pass a Swedish safety so that's on my list to investigate...

I figure if I ever had a vi I'd probably need key shutdown too.

I'd prefer to have a spare fcr before I put my eggs in this basket but won't be hard to throw the string back on if it s***s the bed.

Ya I will probably research those diesel shutdown solenoids and timer relays... Maybe I can sell a kit for guys who want an option or something

We'll get on it then. 🤣

With tractor, the solenoid is pretty cheap, it's the "operator presence control" that's spendy. Which is basically the timer relay.

There's a guy on the board somewhere building new fcr's.

Hell I probably have another, I'm sure I'm missing a box of edic and relay crap somewhere

Found the thread finally. Even gives a parts list.

There's aftermarket ones available now, but not cheap.
