Cup Holders?

Split bench seats as well as R151F transmissions are a no-go. The R151F shift lever is too far back. The H150F used with 1GR and 1VD engines clears.

Wow. I know soooo little about 70's I have no knowledge of any of those drivetrain options. I speak 80 series and 100 series. 70's are their own language. I have much to learn.

oh, thanks!
but, how that works with LHD if current design phone slot is on the side of the handbrake? LHD has the handbrake close to drivers seat. @cruiserdan, do you have any lhd 70 around to try the cup holder on it?

would be possible to install the cup holder at 90 deg angle compared to current design, bringing the phone slot oriented towards front of the vehicle? would size of cup holder allow such an option?

I never sent Dan the console version but I can. The design is reversible. If you want the cell phone slot sticking out then place it that way. If you want it on the inside then rotate the cup holder 180 degrees. The design can go on either side of the console for a LHD and RHD AND can flip 180 degrees on both the RHD and LHD. Basically you have 4 options for orientation. Phone out or phone in for the LHD and phone out or phone in for the RHD. Totally up to the installer on how they want it oriented. The floor version can move left to right along the floor hump but that's about it. If I orient it left to right and not front to back then it has much less range of motion.

Turning it sideways is not possible unless you move it forward on the tunnel, ahead of the brake lever.. Subsequent gear shifts will smash your Starbucks coffee cup.

The floor-mounted version (as opposed to the console mounted version) is drive-side-specific. IE the one with the phone pocket on the left side does not allow for brake lever access with a phone in the slot when fitted to a LHD truck. It will need to be printed in mirror image for LHD. I will have to defer to Brad re the feasability since he is the Print Master.

Answered a bit out of sequence in the previous post.

So you can't just slide the floor version over away from the e-brake lever? In my head I pictured the cup holder being off centered on the hump opposite the e-brake. I can definitely create a mirror image very easily if needed. I didn't think that was needed but I am only going off of pics and not actually being in a 70. You have access to a ton of them. If you think a mirror version is better than just sliding over the current version; then I can do that. The console version should not need that.

The floor mount would be a better product mirrored, especially if it is not a difficult process for you. Even when slid as far as visually acceptable from an appearance standpoint, a larger phone could be a nuisance for those who actually use the brake like they should.

ok, now its clear. here you have picture of my lj lhd.

my tehnical skills are limited, but....say Brad makes two separate pieces that assembly toghether instead of the one that he allready did ( talking about the floor mounted variant). then its up to the customer to flip the top part for either ldh or rhd. bottom part of the unit will remain same. no idea if its possible in real world.

Got it. I will go ahead and make a mirrored version for the floor mounted cup holder. Not a big deal at all. I should have the latest version plus your plastic pieces in the mail to you by Saturday.

Sweet. I don't foresee a need to get the LHD variant so hang on to that.

That one has the full console so no. It requires Brad's other version.

Two more prototypes are shipping out tomorrow to two different people for more test fitting and pics. Hopefully the latest versions installed with pics will clear up any last questions you guys have. I should have pics of both versions installed in LHD and RHD 70's with consoles and without consoles. I feel we are really close to having the r&d all wrapped up.

I would be in for a few of those.

Just wondering how the holder is fixed to the floor? Are you reusing existing holes with new longer bolts?
I have not figured out attachment for the floor model yet. I have countersunk holes for self taping screws for the guys that are open to two self tapers into the sheet metal. I may also include 3M adhesive and Velcro for the folks that don't want screws. The idea of magnets has also been tossed out there but I have not looked into that yet.

So the last prototypes made it to their destinations. I will have pics from Dan soon. Here are the pics of the final version of the console cup holder. This one is mounted on the OEM console. I one I used for test fitting was the Malaysian copy. I'm being told it's a perfect fit on the OEM one as well. This one is fully reversible and can mount on the LHD and RHD console opposite to the ebrake. Here's the first pics. More to come soon.

Here is a pic I just received from Dan showing we did in fact get it level. I just need to see it on the rubber flooring version to make sure it sits level there as well. It's been a challenge to get a design that sits on the carpet and rubber flooring really well. I feel we are really close. I will post more pics as they come in. If you wondering what that metal object is in the cup holder; I have no idea. Dan stuck it in there as a visual reference for the line on the door panel to show it sitting level. Clever idea.

We test fitted Dans sample in my auto BJ74 just now. It has slightly wider aftermarket seats installed, but the cupholder would still work I'll be at a tight fit with the automatic transmission shifter housing. I didn't snap a picture but Dan may have they look great can't wait to get one!
