Yeah, I know, manly subject. But when I stop every morning for that Route 44 tea, a brotha needs somewhere to put it! :frown:

I found this one for sale, for what seems on the surface to be a pricey option:

Cup Holder for Dash [1995-1997 80 series] - $54.99 : CruiserParts.net, Toyota Landcruiser Parts

My dash looks like this:

I've seen a couple youtube vids of a guy installing a switch and unscrewing the dash, but mine has no screwholes that are obvious. So a few questions:

-are those woodgrain panels just stuck in place, and if so, will they survive being pulled off?

-is this model cupholder the best option I can get? If no, where might I find a better option?

-anyone installed one of these that might share tips?

I'm sure I have a million other questions about more options, and I'm killing my coworkers reading about the best mods/accessories on here-but so far I've got a seat extension ordered and am working on keeping the caffeine stable during movement. Priorities....

You've seen the land rover discovery cup holder mod on this forum right?

That wood just peels off, heat will help with this. To get that slot out above the radio there are two little tabs.. look into it from the bottom and you'll see it. Once out you'll see the two screws that hold that whole bezel on, along with the two screws inside the ashtray slot. Get all 4 out, grab, and pull..

I prefer to use that slot for more switches though, you can see that on my web site. And for that matter, we've got another cupholder option as well. Not as pretty as the Disco mod, not as expensive either.

You dont have to spend a crap load of cash on cup holders man. I had room for 3 around my console and it was free. Check out my 93 80 Beater thread, not the nicest but they could be made to look pretty if one was so inclined.

I saw that! Why begrudge a brotha a little info about such a serious subject?

Okay, so I went and looked up your thread, and have come to the conclusion that
YOU ARE MY HERO!

Reasons are as follows:
-you have a most excellent man room in your friggin' garage!
-you did a paper mock up, then fabricated your own bumper on the 80
-you had time to capture forever on the internet your pahdnah rollin' a fatty
-you seriously abused Kermit the frog, showing the world just how hard it REALLY is to be green...
-you had the stones to buff out the rust on your hood and paint her up yourself....

Oh, yeah, and the cupholder idea looks good, too. What'd you make that out of? If the current one is moveable (clearly it was), I might just look into getting another couple of those... just hate losing the legroom, since I'm 6'5" and 270ish.

Ok, so here's my take on the dash cup holder he asked about originally: I bought one, I installed it. I would not want to do without it. I don't use it but my wife does. I created a cup holder in the storage bin of the center consul on my 95.

It now has a nice cover over it so that it almost looks oem. Trust me...

What many don't seem to realize is you don't need a cup holder. You need two.

Love your description of my build thread, gonna use that as my new sig line if you dont mind. Dude was rolling a cigarette by the way....

I made mine out of 1/2" uhmw plastic but you could use plywood or even a 2x6 if you didnt give two s***s about how the finished holder looks (I obviously didnt). I wouldnt bother with getting more stocker holders since they are freaking useless and will not hold anything taller than a pop can securely. Also, if you move the stocker where I did youll have to compromise between being able to move the seat forward all the way and being able to put taller containers in the holder (dash interference). This is kind of a moot point since the stocker is useless as I mentioned before. Mine is mostly a change holder now.

Another benefit of doing it my way is you wont lose leg room.

D (F disco cup holders in the face!)

Slabsides45 -

If you decide to go with the original cupholder you cited you DO NOT NEED TO REMOVE ANY OF THE WOOD TRIM!. Two screws are located just inside the storage cubby that you remove to install the cup holder, couldn't be easier!

if you go with any of the other options - nevermind.

He right, the cubby is held in by tabs that will probably break (off the cubby itself, not the dash) when removing, but you will not need to remove trim. If you buy the cupholder from Slee, they have instructions. The screws are sitting behind the cubby face, just doing nothing but being worthless.

Good information here!

darwink1, feel free!

I opted to go the Disco route, found a (gently) used one I got for $25 including shipping. Now I'm gonna go find that Rustoleum color that one of the threads mentions, seemed to be the perfect match to the oak interior.

Who knows, since it's pretty easy to install the OEM holder, that one might get another look in the future.

Depends. My wife is a real java junkie. I'm lucky to share access to one even when there are three of the things to share between us:p

I'd say you need at least three, however you get 'em.
