Hey guys, I am in the middle of Cummins r2.8 swap into a 1990 Toyota 4runner.
So far, I bought the chevy LS trans adapter, done a solid axle swap to fit the engine, and have positioned the engine for the engine mounts to be tacked on.
My transmission and transfer case setup is 4l60e with a passenger side drop np241. I am currently rebuilding the 4l60e and np 241 with the slip yoke eliminator kit.
I am projected to be done with this project around May time frame, and I am planning to drive it from Anchorage, Alaska down to Austin, Texas this summer. I will try to keep this thread posted about the build!

Well look at this... I was wondering when someone was going to put in a mini Cummins. Only one picture though..

Keep the documentation coming and a video of that thing purring.

H.A.D. was able to supply me with Toyota compatible companion flanges for a RHD NP 241. Meant that the drive-shafts were all Toyota-spec parts, which are superior to Dana/Spicer parts. Still have them, PM if interested.

Something is tickling me that this swap has been done before. Here in Albuquerque. The current owner of the truck loves the swap.

I'm a fab snob, there are some things about that truck that could have been done a lot, lot better. Though probably not in their 2 months time-frame.

That is a tight squeeze. I wonder who he got the adapter plate from to mate the 2.8 to a W56?

It looks like a lift is mandatory with this set up?

Article said "custom bellhousing" and mentioned Axis, the people that make similar parts to fit the VW diesels into these trucks.

We need more engine bay shots!! I am surprised it fits!!

Update: Finished np241 rebuild with sye kit. Still trying figure out the gearing ratio for the speedometer. Transmission is almost finished. need a plate for the reverse clutch pack. (old one was out of specification). Now just waiting on A/C compressor for the R2.8 (had to back order all the way from China) and finish tacking in the motor mounts. A/C compressor mount on the r2.8 is located pretty low, so I have to make sure we have enough space for it.

Thank for all the feedback! I only have time to work on this on the weekends, so updates are not gonna be so frequent.

and I forgot to snap some engine bay shot, sorry. It is currently outside and its freezing here in Alaska! Next time it's in the shop, I'll provide some engine bay pictures!
