Well, it was time for new headlights. My old ones were severly "yellowed" and could not see jack sh:censor:t at night using only lowbeams. I debated HID kits, just getting some 'el cheapo bulbs and sticking them in there, neither sounded that great. I said to myself "somebody got to make some halogen bulbs on steroids". Well...picked these up at Napa for 40 bucks and haven't had them in the dark yet but will in about 45 minutes when I head out for dinner. Let the pictures speak for themselves. I also noticed the cutout on the (or maybe just mine) 100 Series really doesn't exist. It's more of scattered light everywhere. I was a little suspicious about the whole blue coated bulb and the blue tip (not wanting a blue light, for many reasons). I asked a few questions and the manager came out and said he will show me the ones in his car. It was 12 noon, bright as hell outside and I could clearly see them on my pant leg. He turned on his foglight which casted a deep pee yellow ( the vitamin pee color) and noticed how white the bulbs were. I bought em after that. Here are some pics. and for those who could care less about headlights and bulbs. I DO, I love light :D Obviously....

Have you not heard of the HIR's that outperform that junk? They are all over Mud and Danielsternlighting.com Hands down the best stock replacement bulb. I have them in the hundy as well as the 80. I don't think any of the halogens really come to close to them in actual light output.

Read cary's write up on lighting in the 80 section. All of those types of bulbs - Silverstars, etc. are the same output in lumens. Yours just create the blue hue - they even say it all over the packaging, "Xenon look". If they make you feel like they're brighter, go for it.

The HIRs are a great option to get significantly more lumens out of the 55w bulb.

Those bulbs are tinted, so while they look cool, the light output will be decreased. You won't get more light out of the same wattage with a conventional halogen bulb. There is no magic bulb, other than higher wattage (not necessarily a good idea), HIR or HID.

Didn't I just read that John Deer does not make the HIR anymore or something like that or am I loosing it. If Im loosing it how about a source?:grinpimp:

Even if JD isn't, pretty sure Toshiba still is (that's what the JD bulbs are).

JD never did make them they just sold the Toshiba ones that are apparently not in production anymore. At least says mud.

JD didn't "make" them, but they repacked them to their own green/yella box. So I should say if JD isn't carrying them anymore . . . :meh:

you missed the point. Apparently Toshiba isnt making them anymore, at least that's what I read on here. IDK, ive got HIDs so I didnt pay much attention.

Only reference I could find was one from '06 that said Toshiba wasn't making them in Japan any more, they had outsourced to China.

I think there are recent threads about the HIRs where they can still be had from non JD sources, but they are in the $40 range now.

I know everyone thinks the HID's are awesome, but I'll tell you - on my rig the HIR's are just, well, blah... barely a noticable improvement....

you monkey's know what I meant... meaning, everyone raves about the HIR's, but I don't see all that much difference with my HIR's, they are a slight improvement at best!!!

The reality is that with only 12v and 55w or power your not going to get all that much light, regardless of the technology.....only HIDs will give a huge improvement over other bulb types. The bulbs 2000UZJ put it might seem like junk to you guys, but they are still way better than 8+ year old oem bulbs he had in there.

BTW I think your all being overly judgmental about some light bulbs

pman, shadup and go put HIDs in your LX aready! :flipoff2: Come on it'll put Nick back in his place on what BRIGHT is.
